for those who liked GO AHEAD. Try a c drama called TO BE A BETTER MAN. It's funny, beautiful and poignant. Guan xiaontong acting as a sassy hip hop loving Chinese girl is brilliant. Hilarious to see a Chinese girl with corn rows hairstyle.
On rewatching parts of it I noticed something. On remeeting mi jeong, Mr gu says his name is Gu Ja Gyeong. In episode 5 after the long jump to get her hat, Yeom Chang hee (the brother) is trying to find Mr Gu's identity by reading the names of famous national level athetes, the 3rd name he reads is, indeed, Gu Ja Gyeong! Which means that Mr Gu was a well known athlete in his earlier life- which would explain that athletic feat he did.
if your favorites re my liberation notes, my Mister, reply 1988 then you should consider a little known c drama called [To be a better man], the ML is slightly flawed but lovable and the story is beautiful, especially the bond between him and his adoptive daughter. Brilliant acting by Guan Xiao Tong as the sassy , hip hop loving teenager. It was hilarious to see a Chinese girl with the corn rows hairstyle!
I'm going to get a lot of flak for this, but for some reason I find the elder sister (Gi-Jeong) very lovable. Though she is the oldest, yet, she is still a child at heart, and her openness in conversation with Tae-Hun at the end is lovely. While Mi Jeong is hiding behind a tough exterior Gi jeong has no issues showing her vulnerability. The actress Lee El, portraying her, did a great job. And of course, Son sukk has raw appeal, he looks good even in scruffy T shirts.
Very interesting storyline & plot, with a fabulous OST. There is a background music clip 3 times in the drama ( e.g ep 14 @ 57 min 40 secs) of just a female humming in the background. Most lovely and haunting melody. Does anyone know what is the original source? Its not there on the OST at spotify.
No one seems to mention Guan xiao tong. She does a really good job acting as his daughter. Her corn rows hairstyle and hip hop clothing was hilarious , specially on an asian girl.
I love the relationship he had with his grandma and mom too. But, my favorite was the SML dog... Terry ( Ssulja) . What a beauty! And got on beautifully with Eun chan too. Love the two of them bowling at each other. I think thats a korean breed called Sapsaree.
There were a few comments that said that the Chef in this drama was a misogynist/sexist. I almost did not watch it because of that, but when I did I was surprised that it was not so, at all.
A misogynist is one who mistreats the women while adopting an entirely different approach while treating the men. The chef treats the men much much worse than the girls over here, specially the Italian gang, who ironically, are close to him. He is more of a perfectionist who also values talent. He had great respect for Chef Oh (despite her betrayal) as well as Goldfish for the potential he saw in them, he didn't suppress them because they were women - which is what a misogynist would do.
As for the comments that he is unkind and rude, I do not agree. He was the first person to help Goldfish pick up her Goldfish (heh heh) at the road crossing in the 1st scene AND he even walked her back to her workplace. His concern and help when she had the cramp also betrayed his gruff exterior.
As regards the three Unnie's who were fired, they were NOT serious about their cooking at all (compare to Goldfish). Most importantly, they were resistant to learning ( opposite of goldfish). So, they deserved to be fired
And, lastly, in all this talk of feminism and misogyny we have missed the true hero of the story... GOLDFISH. A person who shows great grit & determination in achieving her goals, and if you look closely, she has tipped the power scales and is subtly 'bossing' her boss- that too with a sweet smile, to boot ( kudos to Gong hye Jin for pulling off that role).
In conclusion, don't get put off by the comments & watch this drama ...specially if you are a feminist.
P.S To those who haven't watched it, Goldfish is the nickname for the FL.
I watched this after watching coffee prince and believe me it was even better. LSK is just phenomenal, the swagger, the cheeky arrogant smile...and yet the tenderness behind that when he massages her cramp. Exceptional Actor.
