I'm half way through and there's something that has been bothering me ever since the first episode...
The acting from the police officer is so unnecessarily over the top. They keep focusing on his behavior and his moral standing without showing us why he thinks and acts the way he does... It messed up the pacing and it came off as utterly annoying and narrative disruptive, really... If they were aiming for character foil they failed miserably.
It's most likely a directing issue but it sure did make dislike the actor, jfc...
Gama-san was supposed to kill himself. He was waiting till the Vietnamese worker he had been helping finished…
I'm sorry to bother you again after so long.
Do you happen to know if there's anything on the Nogi-notes and/or the Scenario Book that mention that Itomaki is a dad? We got hints throughout the series (pictures on his desk/cubicle) but noting concrete until the Director's Cut version where he says "Papa ganbaru ne" on episode 1.

Oh, I was not complaining about their pace or anything! It's just that there's no indication they're accepting new members and all of the tweets I saw mentioning them date back to 2019 so I just didn't know whether or not their lj community was still active.

I imagine there's also a limitation to how young the actors can appear to be, so a flashback from so long ago seems a bit hard to film... But it would indeed be a disastrous meeting xD
I think he received that demotion because of Kousaka's death. Some other cops in the first division were clearly suspicious of Shima's involvement even with the lack of concrete evidence. I have zero experience in this, but judging from other police jdramas I saw, they usually demote police officers like that to protect the police force from the public's opinion, right? But yeah, not fighting back definitely had an impact. If Shima himself believed he was to blame then there are very few people who would believe in his innocence.
So that is why he was so polite to Ibuki at the beginning of the show! xDDD

Even if it was not intentional, it works. And it is beautiful!
I didn't know that was the reason behind the guide book! That's so cool! But yeah, staff crew and cast contributing to create masterpieces needs to be showcased more often! I'll definitely pay more attention to this in the future!
I’m not sure why, but I thought that incident was not supposed to be particularly traumatic? Like... Ibuki losing his temper and pulling the gun on a criminal or something...? But I would love to see it happening anyway! And their time at the police academy as well, since they enrolled in the same year. I wonder if they ever met each other before and just don't remember xD Although, those two are hard to forget xD
Shima does have that sort of experience huh. Imagine touching someone and feel they’re already cold... Poor guy... But the idea of Ibuki possibly experiencing death for the first time with Aoike breaks my heart! He tried really hard to save her! Episode 4 is one of my favorites as well! <3
Omg! I didn’t notice that! All he got was a demotion, maybe a suspension right? It’s fascinating how their past experiences and the people their encountered can frame their actions and decisions along the show.

Ayano's performance in that episode was just fantastic. My heart aches every time I think about epi 8... And maybe we all thought it was connected because we all assumed both cases happened in the same day?
Geez, poor Shima! Suffering because of the things he never did... ;-; I think Nogi-san is an amazing writer! But now she seems a bit of a sadistic xD I love her! I love this show even more now <3
Thank you so much for answering my questions and for providing even more information!
Oh! One quick question! Do you know if Shima feels kinda responsible for Aoike's death as well? That maybe they could've saved her if only he didn't taunt the armed guy for so long?

Geez that IS dark! I'm glad they changed it! I don't think I could've recover from that...
You got the info from the Scenario Book, right? If you don't mind, do you think you can answer just two questions that have been bothering me for a while now?
In episode 6, the woman Kousaka was trying to arrest and the woman who was saved by him were both wearing blue. I'm almost certain this was an intentional parallel. Here's my question: The little girl in the first episode wearing red pants and Reiko's red umbrella were also intentional parallels? I don't know if I dreamed about it or if someone actually pointed it out but, it has been in my mind for days...
And second question, also about episode 6. There's a green overlay during scenes set in the past. But that overlay was used in one particular scene set in the present, that is, during Ibuki's speech about switches and life with Kikyo. And I was wondering if that was also intentional? Or if it was maybe just the lighting being reflected from the colored glass panes at their base...?
Really hoping next season doesn't back down on bringing something that should've happen back in season 2 into fruition.

Aw man, I wish he had more screen time as well =/ Hopefully on a possible season 2!
Thank you again!

Thanks in advance!
But thank you for the confirmation!
Thanks!
But you can find both the raw episodes and a link for the eng subtitles on Bagikuy: https://bagikuy.com/miu-404/
Another option is to download the raws from Nyaa via torrent: https://nyaa.si/?f=0&c=0_0&q=MIU404
And the subbers have a tumblr with some translation notes if you want to check them out: https://ibsm404.tumblr.com/
Bagikuy also has the Director's Cut version raw but so far there are no subs for this one, unfortunately.
