Beware, they are truly historical with some fiction. They really focus on the events that they are discussing.…
The last few Taiga were pretty much entirely fictional (Hana Moyu (regarding Sugi Fumi's character), Sanadamaru (the characters were nothing like the historical Sanada and it was disgusting with its bashing of important female characters in favour of a fictional one) and Naotora (regarding Naochika 'loving Naotora' and Naotora's boytoy Ryuunmaru).
Segodon is more serious again and ok at the moment. Kiyomori and Gunshi Kanbei were the last ones that were good regarding the acting and writing though.
I also have to mention Shoplifters. It seems to be excellent and since it won in Cannes I'm really excited to see it. Especially since Ando Sakura and Mayu are good and the rest of the cast as well. Mayu's role also seems to be a type of character she hasn't played yet so far (she is already very versatile and I am glad that she isn't typecasted) from what I have read so it's definitely on my list.
Matsuoka Mayu deserves Newcomer of The Year *she's not a newcomer tho
Mayu is now casted in more 'high profile' roles. Like 'Tremble all you want', 'Chihayafuru' or the upcoming 'Shoplifters' movie by the same director as "Our little sister". She also had more main roles (Aquarium Girl, my Loser Husband) and an upcoming main role in an Agatha Christie special by Mitani Koki (in the past Kuroki Haru also played in a Mitani Koki Agatha Christie special) I would now put Mayu into the same category as Nikaido Fumi, Takahata Mitsuki and Kuroki Haru who just like Mayu were also casted in Taiga doramas (though Mayu's Taiga role certainly deserved more effort however I blame the script writers for this since they downplayed it on purpose).
Mayu is like Fumi in the aspect that both are very talented but other actresses are hyped more. Suzu , Alice, Tao and Kasumi are pretty surely more talked about. They are also good but Fumi and Mayu who are super talented are still rather overshadowed (though Fumi and Mayu are definitely not unknown or obscure)
I would have expected Oshin being high in this survey since it's so famous. I liked Haru's Asadora, Takahata Mitsuki's and Arimura Kasumi's. For the future I wish for Matsuoka Mayu, Kuroshima Yuina or Yoshimoto Miyu to get a main role. Kasumi was also in Amachan before Hiyokko thus Mayu (side role in Amachan) and Miyu (side role in Toto Neechan) could perhaps also get main roles one day. Yoshine in Beppinsan and Wakana Aoi in Warotenka were too unconvincing in my opinion since they are not as experienced as Mayu, Yuina or Miyu for example. Mayu for example would have certainly have been more convincing if she would have been paired with Matsuzaka Tori in Warotenka.
how were they inaccurate im about to start this JP genre.
The older Taiga dramas were better.
Fuurin Kazan is very well acted and the plot intriguing. It's both based on history and a novel. The Taiga "Takeda Shingen" is also great.
Dokuganryu Masamune is very famous.
Gunshi Kanbei was also really great and had great characters.
For Heian era Taiga I would recommend Yoshitsune and Taira no Kiyomori.
For the Sanada Clan I would recommend Sanada Taiheiki instead of Sanadamaru. Sanada Taiheiki is not a Taiga but just as long and has a good Yukimura and the show actually likes the important clan members.
how were they inaccurate im about to start this JP genre.
Hanamoyu pushed Inoue Mao's Sugi Fumi into every possible scenario to make her character seem important despite her character being historically a footnote and not noteworthy.
Sanadamaru sadly bashed the two most important female characters in the Sanada Clan:
Ina the wife of Sanada Nobuyuki who in history was respected and successfully helped to defend Numata castle. I like Yoshida Yo who plays her however the script let her down.
The other woman it bashed was Otani Yoshitsugu's daughter Chikurinin Yukimura's most famous and youngest fourth wife whose father's destiny is important. She supported Yukimura during exile by developing the Sanadahimo along with servants (which the Taiga messed up) and securing his lineage. She also had a famous teenage commander son (Sanada Daisuke) with a very memorable destiny. Chikurinin in the end survived the Siege. I like Matsuoka Mayu who plays her however the script also let her down.
Lady Yodo who is also an important female character is pretty irrational most of the time. The friendship with Yukimura was also very exaggerated since historically Yukimura and Yodo were merely acquaintances.
The problem was that they gave the female main character role to Takanashi Naiki's daughter in history Yukimura's older second wife who in history did nothing (a footnote) and became irrelevant after Yukimura's youth. She despite being a semi-fictional character got gratuitous scenes and was pushed into every scene to give her actress Nagasawa Masami screentime. The younger Chikurinin was treated like the evil obstacle despite Chikurinin in history outclassing Takanashi Naiki's daughter in all aspects (Chikurinin was more popular/loved, actually worked and supported Yukimura, was younger and was successful regarding children/heirs and was politically important for the Sanada)
If you want to watch a good series about the Sanada watch Sanada Taiheiki it was a more respectful depiction of the Sanada Clan.
I would generalize 4 as 'characters who can't accept that the lead character doesn't love them'. Yes, it's super annoying and also very frequent with the childhood friends trope.
I'm pretty content since most winners in my opinion deserved it (Kahoko, Peach Girl, Takahata Mitsuki, Takeuchi Ryoma, Ashi Girl for example).
I would have preferred Kounodori to win Medical Drama as well as for supporting actors though since I think that Kounodori has better actors than Code Blue.
To me the best movies 2017 were Tremble all you want and Love and other Cults. Mayu (as Yoshika in Tremble) and Sairi (as Ai in Love and other Cults) were excellent.
Now that you mention her, it's really weird she wasn't chosen... she is really popular.
I think that onesnowyday means that the name of the singer is written as Inoue Yuko instead of Inoue Sonoko. I at first tried to find her under Yuko but also found her under Sonoko.
I liked Sanadamaru a lot. I agree it's not historically accurate, but this is not a documentary, this is a fiction.…
I still think there is a line between attracting viewers and downplaying of historically important women (Ina, Yoshitsugu's daughter, Chacha) in favour to push a fictional one. Sanadamaru is kinda like the Other Boleyn Girl. Pushing a footnote character and saying irrational stuff about important ones.
I also think that Kuroki Haru's character (Hotta Sakubei's sister) shouldn't have been killed since they didn't use her character's potential conflict: In reality Hotta Sakubei's sister didn't die during the Siege of Ueda. She was originally Yukimura's legal wife however he later is said to have divorced or degraded her status to be able to increase the status of Yoshitsugu's daughter due to the more important position of Yoshitsugu's daughter and due to Yoshitsugu's daughter being the mother of the heir Daisuke.
Also shouldn't Matsuoka's character attract more viewers than Nagasawa's since her character is heavily tied to many popular Samurai? Otani Yoshitsugu (father), Ishida Mitsunari (father's BFF) and Date Masamune (due to her son Daihachi being adopted by the Katakura and starting the Sendai Sanada line). As well as her being Yukimura's support during exile (sanadahimo, working to nurish her family). I think that it's rather meh if potential in Taiga is not used since Sanadamaru could have been so much more if it wouldn't have dwelled so long on Yukimura's youth. It's rather the case that true history is actually way more interesting than what is shown.
Sure Nagasawa might have more fans than Matsuoka since she has been in countless dramas with Johnnys. However for example Fuurin Kazan was daring with Shibamoto Yuki as Yuuhime/Suwa Goryonin as the female lead despite being a complete unknown back than.
It could have been really good since at least the support cast was decent but the script authors didn't even seem to like the historical source material and characters. It was more about showcasing certain actors. Also a Sanada depiction in which Ina and especially Otani Yoshitsugu's daughter are unfairly bashed won't be accepted by me since they were the only two relevant women in the Sanada clan. Nagasawa Masami's fictional character taking all the female screentime was also a mistake. I also would have preferred a younger actor (in his 30s) for Yukimura since Sakai Masato did not seem to like working with a young actress (Matsuoka Mayu who played Otani Yoshitsugu's daughter) despite Yukimura in history being very close with this very young and very kind-hearted wife. Instead they sadly kept forcing Nagasawa into scenes which gives a false impression.
I like Amachan, Toto Nee-chan and Oshin. I would love an Asaora staring Kuroshima Yuina or Matsuoka Mayu or Yoshimoto Miyu one day since I think that an Asadora would work with them acting and appearance wise.
Segodon is more serious again and ok at the moment. Kiyomori and Gunshi Kanbei were the last ones that were good regarding the acting and writing though.

Mitsuki's expressions were so great :).
