A good story turns into complete garbage by a lot of cliches

Generation to Generation" is a classic case of highbudget production being wasted on a script that feels like it was written by an AI recycling old tropes. While the aesthetic is beautiful, the actual experience of watching it is deeply frustrating and irritating.
Lets talk about drama
Story and romance:The writing is the biggest letdown. The romance is built on the most tired cliches imaginable. We are stuck in a loop of the female lead (FL) leaving the male lead ML because she "can't leave her family," followed by inevitable, repetitive reunions that lose all emotional impact by the third time it happens. The writer seems to have no idea how to develop a relationship beyond these circular conflicts.

The "Obsessed" ML Trope: The show falls into the trap of making the ML an "obsessed freak." It’s a trope we’ve seen a thousand times, and here it’s handled poorly. What’s worse is the FL’s complete lack of reaction; she doesn't seem to care about his behavior, making their dynamic feel hollow and unrealistic. Throw in a forced, unnecessary love triangle, and you have a romance that is more exhausting than endearing.(Some people called it cute you might be one of them if you think its cute)it was annoying and irritating (fl was loved by her family and ml was constantly pulling strings without her knowing ofc she not gonna leave her family for a man who keep playing but it was happening again and again instead of cute it turned into garage

Acting: The actors do their best with the material they are given. Zhou Yiran and Bao Shangen have visual chemistry but even their talent can't save a script that gives them nothing new to work with. idk why tf bao and zhou yi ran even choosed this script
Ost:The OST is actually quite good and manages to create a mood that the plot fails to sustain. It’s the only part of the show that feels "good"
Final :
If you like looking at pretty costumes and listening to a nice soundtrack while ignoring a nonsensical, trope-heavy plot, you might get through this. Otherwise, the "obsessed" ML the chopped editing and the repetitive "I must leave for my family" cycle make this a skip.

A cinematic masterpiece

Cinematography:The cinematography in chasing jade is one of the most standout thing. Instead of feeling like a fake movie set the atmosphere is so lively and real when you see the village scenes, you can practically smell the woodsmoke and hear the noise of the market it feels like a place where people actually live and breathe.
the snowfall scenes are a total standout it’s not just "fake drama snow," but a heavy, beautiful frost that makes everything feel quiet and intense, like we’re peaking into a real moment in time. Every scene was soo beautiful shot zeng qing jie, has created a "ethereal" look that elevates the series from a standard romance to a cinematic experience.
( I have noticed that its a cold weather and people are not wearing much as they should be the director have put work in tiny details so how could he miss such thing)

Action seq: the fight scenes are executed with incredible precision. You can tell leads have put work to make the movement look natural I have watched 3 to 5 fighting as of now they were all good I will keep updating it .

Chemistry:The chemistry between tian xiwei and Zhang Linghhe is so natural. It is a rare, "once-in-a-decade" pairing where both actors possess an almost ethereal level of beauty that somehow feels grounded and raw. Their chemistry is so natural. They don't have to try hard; when they stand together, the tension is just there. The way they look at each other feels like they are the only two people in the world, making their romance feel completely real. I want to see them together again.

Pacing: One of the biggest reason people drop dramas is because of pacing the plot is not moving or its too fast here ep (1-4)everything is balanced as of now (5-8) pacing can be improved it was slow the plot was not moving most people didn't notice its bcz of cinematography I will update it later

Acting:Tian Xiwei delivers excellent performance, balancing her "butcher shop" toughness with a raw, emotional vulnerability that feels incredibly real. Zhang Linghe is equally captivating, using his intense, expressive eyes to convey the heavy burden of a man driven by revenge. Both are doing great job

Ost :The ost for chasing Jade are also good that perfectly matches the drama's lively atmosphere. Every song feels deeply emotional, flowing naturally with the snowfall and the intense, gritty fight scenes. I loved every ost ( my personal favorite is among thousand I seek him)

Chasing jade is a masterpiece because it takes a great story and makes it look like a dream you don't want to wake up from.
