News Weirdo-101 is high school alter version of Me and Thee
I liked the first part of the series because Sea’s character was such a nerd to the point of being genuinely annoying—and I mean that as a compliment. I thought the series would actually lean into that weirdness and build a story around what made his character different. Unfortunately, as the story progressed, I felt like I was just watching a high school version of Me and Thee.
It’s the same old formula: one character is rich and has something interesting going on, while the other feels bland, rigid, and completely lacking in personality or flavor. It reminds me so much of the PondPhuwin dynamic in Me and Thee, particularly Phuwin’s character, who felt like he had very little room to grow or show different sides of himself. And now, with Keen’s character in Weirdo101, I’m getting that same feeling all over again.
For a series called Weirdo101, there’s surprisingly little that feels weird about it. Where’s the uniqueness? Where’s the character development? Where’s the payoff for introducing a character who seemed so different and full of potential in the first place?
Honestly, what frustrates me the most is that this is SeaKeen’s third series together, yet the production seems to have let them down with a story that offers so little growth or room for them to explore their range as actors. It feels like they’re being stuck in the same routine over and over again: “Okay, guys, you’re high school boys again. Be sweet to each other, develop feelings, and that’s pretty much it.”
And that’s such a waste of their potential. SeaKeen deserve roles that challenge them, characters with more depth, and a story that allows them to show us something new—not just another variation of the same formula.
Poor SeaKeen. I genuinely hope they get a much better project next year, one that gives them more interesting characters and a storyline worth sinking their teeth into. And please, for the love of BL, let’s give these boys a break from playing schoolboys. We need something fresh. They deserve something fresh.
