I was not expecting that confession honestly, I thought it would be more like pulling teeth, but he really threw…
As always, agree with all of the above.
Thank you! Balancing post-grad and fulltime work is not ideal. I feel less smart for making the decision to do it š
Y'know what, with that recommendation I KNOW that somehow I won't be getting the same ending from "He's Coming to Me" with the 'fell in love with a ghost' trope. When I'm feeling more resilient, I will 100% watch it though.
Boy, My Tooth, Your Love had the best walking argument scene I've seen. I actually thought of West Wing's long walking and talking scenes when I watched it. It was so so good.
Yesterday I zoomed through the first 9 episodes of "Our Dining Room Table" which was incredibly sweet and had me smiling. Have you watch it? Also, I'm waiting for La Pluie to come out later, I'm not sure why I'm watching it though.... The CONCEPT is interesting, the execution however... What are you watching at the moment?
A couple of things on at the moment I'm waiting till all the episodes are out (like Step by Step, but Tiktok edits have shown me that the main character can be lured anywhere with stuffed toys? Liability).
So when are you going to write that script? Because I want to read it. I just KNOW it's going to be good.
I was not expecting that confession honestly, I thought it would be more like pulling teeth, but he really threw…
Alexa, play 'Traitor' by Olivia Rodrigo. Y'know, there's something poetic in us experiencing betrayal from this series, since I feel like that is what Nan felt at the beginning.
Thank you for sharing, I grabbed a coffee and settled in. :)
Speaking of annoying creative choices, I was thinking about that super quick 'make up' scene on the stairs. I was trying to work out what it meant but I suspect they just got sick of shooting everything downstairs and wanted to make use of some unused space...
I keep wondering why Nan's hair isn't as big as it should be, since he's holding all these secrets. I keep thinking about his knowledge of Phu's brother and while I can understand a hesitancy of not wanting to give someone false hope/information, I still think he should have shared things with them. If the brother hadn't found that picture, was he ever going to say anything?
Honestly I think if they had had more budget, they would have gone to China together and sold the farm. It makes more sense.
You're 100% right, we were robbed of that transitional period of 'friends to lovers'. It really took the life out their relationship. I started to wonder if the actors had had a fight because that 'love scene' was more 'sensual rolling'. I guess it's a re-shoot of that clip on YouTube, which seemed more feeling-led..
I actually wrote out all my thoughts in real time on the notes app, but I will just share with you the plane bit: "17. EXCUSE ME, A VANISHING PLANE PLOT? 18. I am loosing my mind. This was not on my bingo card. If this is a joke Iām suing. 19. Phu is crying and Iām still in disbelief tbh. 20. I think Nan is gonna walk through the door 21. WHAT IS GOING ON? ARE YOU GHOST-NAN? Did you drop your phone? Why did no one know if you were okay? Are you real? Dude doesnāt look like heās been in a plane crash? 22. Thank god heās not a ghost I would have thrown my damn laptop. Just thinking about the cortisol levels for Phu and what long term effects thatās gonna have on his health š"
But yes, everything you've said I agree with. Transending typical tropes, three-dimensional characters, the fact that while everyone is flawed... Inherently most people are just trying to do what they think is best at the time. All of that did feel lost.
I've been thinking about recommendations, I always forget to log what I've watched. I think The Promise really came under the string of BLs not written by GMMTV/Big BL (ha) that is predominately geared towards stories and experiences of people above a certain age. It's not the same, but Triage, Paint With Love, Manner of Death, all fit in that category for me. But nothing produced the same feelings that the first few episodes of The Promise did.
I also think we've probably watched a lot of the same shows. I REALLY liked I Will Knock You, I thought it was very different. I liked 'Kimi no koto dake mite itai' it was super sweet, about more than romance, very much about the bit between being a kid and being a grown up and wanting that time to last forever.
How about you? Any recs? This was basically a whole essay and I'm supposed to writing my dissertation at the moment... Apologies for the length.
I was not expecting that confession honestly, I thought it would be more like pulling teeth, but he really threw…
That can be the polite, short-form version of what I was yelling. I think I pulled muscles from rolling my eyes.
I assume they just ran out of budget. There was a very clear "we have zero budget for China" feel. Or really any scene outside the house bar a few seconds.
The random fight and meeting of 'other Nan' had me laughing. What is your bet that it's not the introduction of the next main couple for a new season?
I was not expecting that confession honestly, I thought it would be more like pulling teeth, but he really threw…
SO TRUE. I would have loved them to pull a LITA with the letter, I really thought that Phu wouldn't come out with it unless backed into a literal corner (and not in public).
My prediction had actually been that gran would die, Phu would disappear AGAIN and Nan would finally lay it all out on the table so to speak.
Question, why do you think Nan never called him out sooner on it? Like I don't think they have the relationship where Nan is trying to coach Phupha into 'getting over his fears' -nor in the series did he act like he was especially doing that beyond being firmly attached to him since he returned. Like, generally it seemed like nurturing behaviour went more the other way with how Phu took care of Nan who was a bit of a chaos child day-to-day.
Just a side note, but do you think there is a brief set up of Party and Khunkhao? Or is that just me trying to pair off people...
I have 100% loved this show but these last two episodes are not hitting the same for me.
I was not expecting that confession honestly, I thought it would be more like pulling teeth, but he really threw himself in the deep with a public declaration of love. Nothing like a younger brother who you don't know is your brother turning up to make you jump into action. SAYING THAT, if they are brothers, surely over the last 10 years the younger brother would have shown one of those 'missing' posters to his mum so she could have been like "that is my child actually"
I STILL DO NOT KNOW WHY GRANNY NEEDED TO DIE. I don't think it really moved along the plot at all anyway, unless character motivations meant he wouldn't (probably) move to China if his gran was alive and in a different country from him? I guess?
Anyway, I demand more romance for episode 10 last week. I'm banning tears.
So what I loved was that while Ji Hyun basically emerged from the water with full confidence. I loved the scene with his best mate too. MY GUESS is that they will go their separate ways now for a few years and Ji Hyun will just continue to flourish and then when Jae Won has done some more work on himself they'll reunite somehow. Like, he's held together with sticky tape rn, I don't think he's in the best place to be a good boyfriend in any case.
I LOVED the showdown with his ex under the tree thoš Tell 'em, bestie.
I really like the actors but this is 100% not their area⦠who cast them for this? I feel like they got set up. Anyway, I hope their agents get them some better roles in the future.

Did they lose all chemistry too? Or is it me?
I knew they couldn't pull back the writing/direction from ep 9 in one episode but still.
EXCUSE ME POSTPONED?
