Holy fucking shit this was beautiful
I've never seen something this beautiful in the gl genre as a whole and I've seen my fair share of dramas. The story is phenomenal. I haven't read the book so I can't speak on how accurate the show is to the book but it definitely holds on its own. There are hints to future events perfectly placed where you'd likely miss them on a first watch and I found the story to be complex yet simple. The premise is understandable and almost basic but as the story progresses (with near perfect pacing might I add) the plot becomes more complex and you become more engaged as to what will happen next. Let me also add that the plot twists present are truly twists that you wouldn't expect.
The acting in this drama was absolutely amazing and you truly began to feel for the characters in the show. From main characters like Claire to the background characters everything felt real. Too often actors will overplay scenes, act stoic and bored in emotional scenes or deliver lines poorly but in this show none of that happened. I actually found it refreshing to hear some actors say words in a similar way to how I would use them in conversation.
The cast was just wow. The chemistry between the mains was definitely there and so was the chemistry between a few of the side characters, not just in romantic ways. The friendly bonds between some characters felt natural and the way the actors managed to make you as a view feel as though, they had been in prison for a long time and formed real connections is brilliant. I personally loved the friendship between Mathusorn and Karaket and often their interactions had me genuinely laughing.
The productions is breathtaking. I honestly cannot put into words how much I loved going through each episode and noticing small details that make this show so amazing. From the set to the music to the lighting and even some symbolism, this show is truly beautiful. Credit is also due to the cinematographer and I think gl needs more of them because damn. More times than I would like to admit I would just pause to see the scene afront of me. From Claire in isolation to Bell in the library to the shadows and the placement of light. When people say this show is beautiful please believe them.
Lastly, how I felt when I finished. I'm kind sleepy so I'm gonna try be quick and effective but I cried. I rarely cry and the last time a show/movie made me cry was the lion king when Mufasa died but this show made me cry genuine real tears. Not of sadness but of almost happiness for the characters, their stories concluding, the happy endings and the not so happy endings. I can't put into words the feeling I felt but it was like every emotion good and bad. Happiness(that I was able to watch such a masterpiece), sadness(because the show is over), pity(for Kae iykyk) and a slight emptiness because I doubt I'll ever watch something as good as this.
Overall, (in the words of Sabrina Carpenter) please, please, please watch this because trust me when I say you'll enjoy it. If you don't, you're lying to yourself and if you find any negative reviews they're lying to you too. (I gave it a 9.5 for rewatch value because now my eyes are red and I have a headache from how much crying I did)
I could go on and on about this show but Ill stop here :)
