After following the comments and reviews in here for some time, "best drama ever made", I was hyped to start to watch it. And now after finishing it, I have to say that I was a bit disappointed.
It has all the ingredients to be one of the all time greatest, but everything ends up feeling a bit like a missed opportunity. Of course, the Dong Hoon and Ji An relationship was touching, but I honestly expected to be more touched by it. I think I only cried once and I normally cry all the time to dramas. They had the perfect set-up, and while it was very good, it felt like they never really fully utilized it.
But my biggest problem I had with "My Mister" was that almost all side stories were straight out boring. Take the brothers for an example, especially the love story with the actress, or the bar owner's broken heart story that we get to follow during most of the drama, but never get properly introduced to... like why would we even care about it? All the office politics where men in suits just sit and talk and talk? All the repeated drinking scenes with almost pointless dialogue? The affair part was decent I guess but I really can't stand cheating stories personally (its disgusting), and I felt those scenes just went on too long, especially in the first half of the drama.
I enjoyed Ki Yong's side story.
All in all, this could easily have been cut and packed into 8 episodes for a better pace. OR, keep the 16 episodes and replace 90% of the side stories with Dong Hoon and Ji An scenes, and flesh out their friendship even further, let them heal each other's souls even more! There is so much more they could have done!
I know its supposed to be a slice-of-life kind of drama, but it was still just way too slow and dragged out for my taste. My rating for My Mister is 8/10. Its a great drama, but a BIT overrated.
