Yan Chi is the only son of Prince Rui, who is the emperor's stepbrother (born from a concubine ig). Since he is the heir to Prince Rui (a title give to Yan chi's dad), he is called the crown prince of prince rui. The grand princess is the current emperor's aunt. Prince Jin is the first son of the emperor but he was born to a concubine not to the empress.

The accident takes place on their 20th birthday seeing as they are showing it to be the year 2020 and like Dream wishes Night saying he is 5 years old. Maybe the later episodes will give some explanation as to what is going on.

Ok, so for Day and Night, their moms died when they were born, dads when they were 4 and sister/uncle when they were 8. So who passed on their 12th birthday? Cause ep 2 showed deaths from the 16th birthday.
