I liked it them. The novels are written basically the written version of the show, done after the show ended. So it’s very short and there’s not much of a difference between the 2. You get some extra scenes (like the first time they have sex) and more Insight of what the characters are thinking but if can’t read basic Chinese then it’s not the easiest read.

In interviews, they said that from the beginning of the series they hoped there was no clear distinction of who was the top and bottom or indication of who does what to who. They didn’t want to slate the characters into male/female gender roles, just focus purely on the emotions of liking some one and the sacrifices your willing to do for them.
In the novel though there is 2 love scenes and Shu Yi bottoms for both, including the coach scene on the series. (That’s the reason In episode 1 in the office he’s daring/taunting Shi De to give himself to him.)
