The engagement was fake, Chen Li made it up to make Zhi come back to him :) And i'll say the kiss was real but again, it depends of our own interpretation.
I'm sad that some moments were cut but this episode is one of the example that they handled things way better than in the novel. The writing of the novel sucks and Ashtine Olviga really brings the best out of Jay Jay :)
