The FL has never received any kind of love before, she has only met people who pretend to care but want to exploit her talent. ML is patient with her because he understands her story, which is why each time she tries to push him away, he never leaves; he knows “unconditional love” isn’t a language she understands so she’d rather run away from it. I also think that ML doesn’t realize he feelings for her until later because he thinks it’s all part of his sickness
