I was the kid who wanted to work at Blockbuster so I could watch all the movies for free. RIP Blockbuster

Started watching Kdramas in 2010 when 'Personal Taste' showed up on Hulu one day. The rest is history. Dramawiki was my original source for finding shows to watch, and I lurked on mydramalist for awhile before finally making a profile and keeping track of all the shows I've watched in 2019.  So I might be missing some that I forgot about.

I watch a lot of North American and European media as well and enjoy a multitude of genres. I like discussing films/movies/shows so feel free to ask questions about anything I've watched that you might be curious about.

My ratings vary depending on genre and quality. I'm not going to judge an idol drama with the same measuring stick as a more serious production with highly experienced actors and crew. So when you see a 10 on what would be considered an "idol"/youth drama it's based on my enjoyment of the project, not really focusing on the technical aspects of the overall production. Although those aspects do play into my overall enjoyment of a production as I can't really turn off my production knowledge(cinematography, lighting, choreography, staging etc...) Those aspects are weighed more heavily in higher quality productions than they are in idol/youth dramas.

How I Get My Rating:

Currently 14 categories: Female Lead, Male Lead, Chemistry, Supporting, Storyline, Writing, Music/OST, Hair & Make-Up, Costumes, Set Design, Cinematography, Production, Visual Effects, Stunts.

Each category gets a score of 1-5 stars, added together and then divided by 70 to get the % overall and that will give me a number between 1-10 for the star rating on MDL. Sometimes there are more categories, and I'm strongly thinking of added Editing to the list but as of now editing is wrapped up in the Production score.

Star Rating:

1: Don't recommend wasting your time on. Problematic in multiple areas. Not just "not good" but downright bad. Every department failed at their job. Even though I try not to rate shows I didn't complete I will give a 1 star if they are butchering an adaptation of a work I've already read or seen.

2: I normally give this to a show/movie I liked only one thing about in the whole of production.

3: Wouldn't really recommend. One or two departments did their best, but couldn't save the sinking ship.

4: Below average, but at least a few departments made it worth the hours put in.

5: Just extremely average. Multiple departments not going above "meh". Probably would have DNFed but it was a slow watching week/month.

6: Average with a few departments lacking. This one is also for a show that has great chemistry with the leads but overall production and story quality are low.

7: Slightly above average a couple of flaws/lacking. Would recommend depending on the person's personal interest in the genre.

8: Above average with minor flaws. Would recommend.

9: Above average most departments 10/10. Normally will lose a point for lack of uniqueness or one of the 14 categories having a lower score.

10: Very few flaws if any. Enjoyed from start to finish. Would highly recommend. These are most likely to be rewatched later, or leave a lasting impression on me. Some shows can be a 10/10 and I will only watch them once because of how heavy the story was.
