The best and worst of Pursuit of Jade is the first 17 episodes. So much time was used on leads and their village…
agree with this sm it’s like the director just wanted ppl to pair up so he did we didn’t really get to see anyone “fall” in love every couple was just super attractive and already 100% ready to commit to their partner lol
the marquis role was such a waste because in the novel he has a back bone and knows his priorities.. how can a general let his wife do whatever she wants in his military, the fl has crazy plot armer and the ml is just there to boost her character it feels like he’s a side character to her tbh we don’t even get any interaction of him growing up or with his uncle or any of his trama/revenge stories
I’m on episode 18 and idk it’s just not great.. yet? the cast is amazing, love the fl and ml, but it just…
i’m not there yet but i saw a spoiler and one of the biggest thing they changed in the later ep is how when he found out fl dad was involved in his dads death he just goes with it, which is great his love is greater than any past history.. but in the novel this is like a huge turning point in their relationship ml breaks up with fl and is internally conflicted on what to do he then seeks self punishment before realizing nothing can stop him from loving her they basically just removed all this and made him a puppy for fl. it just makes his character so boring and the show lacking depth imo
I’m on episode 18 and idk it’s just not great.. yet? the cast is amazing, love the fl and ml, but it just feels really dragged out and there’s so many characters and unnecessary scenes. i question why some scenes are even shown
I was reading spoilers and novel differences and I think one of the thing that the story lacks is the character development of the ml. we know he’s this big shot general but it feels undeserved. it’s almost like they built his character around loving and following the fl. in the novel he’s a lot more cold and calculative but that makes more sense with his background and how we found him at the beginning of the show. some changes made sense for a drama adaptation but ml doesn’t really seem like a military leader or one seeking answers/revenge. also it’s taking so long for her to find his real identity idk why they r dragging this out.. maybe it’ll get better?
Imo it was all good until after the accident. JZ was written to be this hero ml that would not take help from…
Plot holes aside The chemistry between the ml and fl is sooooo good. I usually can’t watch esther acting tbh because it’s just a little too cringe for me but with He Yu it was so natural. They both did a really great job showing their young side and then with the time jump you could tell they both grew up a lot. He Yu’s portray of a hot headed protective dude was amazing. I felt like I could tell what he was feeling/thinking from his expressions.
Imo it was all good until after the accident. JZ was written to be this hero ml that would not take help from anyone and can do anything on his own. Even during fights he could take every hit and not feel a thing after haha. But writers really fumbled when they decided against the novel on some core details. They just tried so hard to make JZ THE HERO.. it made it super unrealistic. 1. In the novel (read from comments) he actually loses a leg - which makes sense why even after he recovers he had a permanent reason to feel like he couldn’t reach out to MuMu. In the show, he had no reason. He was just like I’m weak still (which we clearly see isn’t a problem). He literally got successful (so fast might I add) did all these things for her and just waited for her to notice?? AND HE TOOK HER DOG.. that’s just mean man 2 In the novel her dad plays a bigger role in their life AND HE SHOULD’VE IN THE SHOW TOO. Her dad tells him to leave her after his accident which adds a huge layer of understanding why JZ decided to leave her. But they just didn’t include that and made it seem like this 23/24 yo just wants to be selfless and made all decisions on his own?? They also wasted so much time making her dad a drunk to not have it make any sense to the plot… 3 There was a lot of those random moments that really didn’t need screen time like the part where SL confessed to MuMu.. it made their friendship so weird afterwards like she didn’t wanna hug him after 6 years of not seeing him?? I wish instead we got more background on ml and fl life like some interaction between JZ and MuMu younger half sister. He did risk his life to save her life. Her dad reaction to their relationship. Or how JZ got so successful in 6 years so fast and how he could even afford a private doctor from Canada.. was it all from his rich friend?? But wasn’t he against getting help from people? Why was the doctor’s role even necessary? I felt like how Mu Mu found out about his injury was so rushed so they just made a character to do that. I could prob go on but nah ending remark is the show was good regardless lol
pls use this thread to add any more moments you wished was elaborated on or a missed from the novel, I would love to know more
I think several of us on here mentioned they wish they talked about the dad a bit more. him being introduced as…
Ahh I see thanks for letting me know now I won’t wait then… that’s so strange cuz they wasted so much time showing him drunk instead of adding more to the plot
I’m on episode 15 right now and I’m kind of confused why her dad is an alcoholic? Is this how he is in the novel? I don’t understand how that plays a part in the plot at all. I feel like Jin zhao really cares and respects her dad since he raised him so their relationship should be a big no to him right?? Also the stepmom and younger sister is so cute it makes no sense why to have the dad just kind of be a deadbeat drunk.
Spoiler!! But after Jin zhaos accident I read that in the novel the dad ask him to stay away from mu mu. Does that happen in the show? I also saw spoilers of Jin zhao trying to get the mu’s mom approval but what about her dad?? I feel like he’s a really good person but for some reason they made him a drunk…
This show was so good but I gotta say XW carried it so hard he’s the sole reason I finished it I loved his acting and his story was so good.
1. That being said I think the fml was alright idk something was missing. The story was so long at first and felt kinda rushed at the end. We knew how xw fell in love with Ninger but it was kinda weird how she fell for him. Like when he forced a kiss and she looked at his hands it was like she felt like she had to give in because she felt bad? I know that’s not the case but it felt that way. Also WHY did they kill FY it made no sense like there was no character development or anything she just died to die. I think in the novel she died to let the fml understand death and how her past life is different from this one and to fully embrace the life she’s in now but the way the drama killed her made no sense. The ending was good… but it left so much open I feel like just to push for a happy ending.
2. Why was the sister even married as the second wife?? It’s like they dropped her after her marriage cuz we never see them again. And knowing the ending and that time period it’s assumed the sweet friend that was basically forced to marry the prince as the main wife is now a lonely girl stuck forever — can someone explain what happened in the novel? I don’t get it if they were gonna do that why not just marry her as the main wife in the first place. I know the other friend is irrelevant but it’s kinda weird that she’s super nice and just tells fortune all day and is Ninger friend too but they don’t care about her at all. Honestly it’s kinda weird that the ending they had a little kid as the king, I think that’s so bad they should’ve had the king have a daughter and his brother still be king and when he became king he was able to change his wife and free the other girl and marry the one he wanted. It would be nice to see how capable he is without his mom too instead of a kid ruling cuz we know how that tends to be.
3. I get the princess and YL coming to visit but why the heck is ZZ there and not XW bodyguards and friend at the end?? They were literally his life friends that fought with him from the beginning. They definitely should’ve been there or at least mentioned.
4. I read the summery of the novel and it makes so much more sense why ZZ and Ninger did not end up together but the drama was so bad at showing that like wth happened she just decided it be better for him if she left and then she did?? I know they had to bypass the censorship but they should’ve added that ZZ also remembers the past it would’ve made it make so much sense why he didn’t wanna trap her in her old past and let her move on rather than him wanting to be with her and her just being like o jk I changed my mind.
The novel's ending was FAR better, in the end Do jun became the chairman and married the prosecutor, the novel…
I would disagree I don’t get why people hated the ending so much. The novel ending is the “happy ever after” ending but the way the drama ended showed it coming full circle. I think it was really rushed and there’s a lot of unanswered things but it still tried to answer all the moral of the story such as a family should not be able to control that much wealth regardless of how “good” you are and the young Do jun would never be able to get to where he is without being HW first so it made sense for him to return to HW. Yes he didnt become CEO but that wasn’t the point he took it from the family that killed him in both life and got justice. In both life DJ/HW accepted the people around him shouldn’t know his full story (idk why I wish he told them) which explains why he didn’t tell the prosecutor in the end of the drama even tho it looks like he wanted too but it’s prob assumed since she kinda senses it she’ll find him again.
Also, now that he’s back as HW he’s just going to live the best life as HW with both HW and DJ memories so really no one died. He didn’t lose anything (besides his family which I stand by WHY ISNT HE TELLING THEM) and it goes to show the power he got was well deserved because he was able to win against the family without anything as just a poor man. That all being said THE NOVEL ENDING WOULD HAVE BEEN V V SATISFYING TO WATCH but I think the drama ending was unique eventful and dramatic v justifiable to the whole story
Posted this in part 2 too cuz I'm dying to find out bout this backstory. Guys I'm so confused bout LBY mom, shes crazy and stuck in her younger days but how come she thinks the emperor loves her? she even mentioned something about constant Yue. I have been trying to find the answer to understand LBY backstory more but I can't find anything does anyone know if the novel mentions it?
