Hi! Just wanna say you are obviously entitled to your opinion but it seems to me you really missed the point of the story and a few important plot points at that. The plot is indeed very dark and may be a little confusing but it's all very much clear at the end. It's all in the details.
Kai stepped forward and confessed to be his rapist but later in the movie it became clear that he wasn't the rapist and only used the information he already had to make MC rap. Why? Kai knew him as his English teacher from back when he was a student when MC helped him be confident and not be afraid of anybody. Why make him rap? Rapping about trauma or putting into words the way a certain traumatic event made you feel can help navigating through the trauma. Why pretend to be his rapist? Kai tried to keep a distance to MC because of personal involvement with the actual rapist who was a member of parliament and very powerful. He could make everything go away and protected everyone in Kai's community. He wanted to make sure MC would not be involved with that too. When MC does find out he got it all wrong he realises how much Kai's been doing to help him heal and to protect him and realises he has feelings for him. The plot is unclear about whether the rapist died in the fire MC started or if he's the murderer who in the end murdered MC, but either way Kai runs because he was being surrounded by police probably looking for him because of the fire, not because he's a coward.
I would classify this movie as arthouse which is really not everybody's cup of tea and that's okay! It's too bad this movie is not what you expected it to be :(
