Both lead actors look the part, it was as if they jump out the novel itself. With it comes to visuals they fit…
Yes, I agree that the three dramas have a different composition, plot drive, and character developments. They stand on their own. Being equal to Untamed is indeed a success already. But because 2ha was more romance-driven compare to MDZS, the chemistry the WOH blazingly portrayed and daring actions is something the fans would love to see for RanWan too. And among the 3, when it comes to the plot 2ha is the one who is need of the more BL-ish nature (not the non-con parts but with the over all romance).

WOH has already made a mark. A mark that Chinese BL has the ability to be bold amid censorship and make the fans feel less restrained. Untamed made the first breakthrough which turn the BL genre by storm... however WOH has pushed the boundaries and set a new standard in which the future dramas would look up to. And whether we like it or not... the new standard now is Untamed faithful adaptation of the novel plus WOH's bold chemistry. The higher bar was actually a good thing, for it means Chinese BL is evolving and becoming better and better.

And as a 2ha fan, I'm one of those who greatly hope HYX will indeed turn into a great drama. Yet I have no qualms about voicing out my fears and expectations. We would never expect to replicate another Untamed or WOH, we only want the best aspect (great acting+faithful script+good chemistry) of those two masterpieces will be showcased in Immortality. These two have already lived up to their source material... 2ha deserves nothing less.

It's gonna be a huge circus if everything goes down on the drain. As they say the higher the expectation is the harder it is when we meet the floor. I'm fingercrossing like heck.

With regards to the screenwriter, I'm not sure too. I just heard about her when she speaks up after the fans roar regarding Shi Mei being a love interest, in which she promised that the script follow closely to the novel itself.

That's actually what's making me more afraid. HYX has all the perfect recipe for it to be a huge success. A novel that can be consider as a king in complexity with a love story that so painfully beautiful, lead actors that look like they were made just for the role, a budget that will make Meatbun's Xianxia world come to life, a waiting fanfare that will propel the views like no other. Even if I wanted to lower my expectation or stop myself from fidgeting... Immortality is making me teetering on the edge, until a trailer was dropped or the first episode comes.

I wanted to say that I'm fine waiting as long as the drama they will give us is the one we deserve... but the wait was also killing me.

And the fact that it was a low budget drama and started with no fanfare was really something. It feels like it ambushed the entire BL industry. Like it was saying "Let me teach you how it's done."

Maybe it is also a good thing to jump in a drama without expectations, that's how I started watching WOH, so whether it turns out to be a flop (glad it didn't) or success it wouldn't have given me any hard feelings. However, with HYX... I'm a big fan of the book and RanWan... it would really hit me hard if it will not turn out as expected.

A big check on that. CFY already has the background to propel him to success. He just have to prove he can take Mo Ran's character and give us that heart wrenching portrayal the character deserves.

Yet I'm really having doubts, for no one actually knows WOH will gonna explode into a sensation like this. And the production for HYX was done since last year. Any major revision was already out of the window. When they are making the drama, they must have thought they have to exceed or be equal with the Untamed... they wouldn't have guessed WOH would gonna make the high standard skyrocket like this.

I completely agree. It takes two to tango. Untamed has set the bar for an adaptation so closely follow to the original material, while WOH shocks us with chemistry so bold that it embodies the 'BL' tag proudly. Immortality has a lot to prove to fill in the already so high bar.

It already has the perfect novel to adapt, the visuals of the actors and the budget a lot of BL drama haven't. How they can cook this all into the perfect dish is the only thing left. Not to mention the chemistry.

the only thing I'm worried about is the acting. CFY specifically, let's hope he pulls a GJ and surprise us all.
Both lead actors look the part, it was as if they jump out the novel itself. With it comes to visuals they fit the perfect ideal. I have faith on Leo's acting. He did well in Ashes of Love. With CFY, I share the similar sentiments. Mo Ran is a very complex character with a lot of nuances and emotions to portray. I'm in tenterhook waiting for this drama.
I've been thinking of giving my two cents on this thing ever since the Season 2 episode 1 aired. I never write comments or even put a review for I was always been a silent watcher/reader. But this time I just couldn't stay silent anymore. I respect other's perspectives (except those just plain trashing and seeking fault without much reason), but I just have to address what I feel. Let me jot it down one by one:

1.) For those who loved the Season 1 but felt like the current season was bland/boring and not as great as it's predecessor, I would just like to tell on the perspective of someone who watches it for the nth time (not including those views with all the reaction videos, bts and OST listening)... Season one will always be a favorite. It is a league of its own. For fans just like me, it is plainly imperfectly perfect. A masterpiece full of emotion, angst, and deep raw love that MewGulf gave life to two flawed protagonists with deeply scarred past, a love born from hate and healing of two different but broken souls.

Season 1 is not Season 2 and it will never be. It was never created to be compared to its predecessor. It was created to continue a spectacular story fans badly demanded. A continuation of the HEA the Season 1 Ep 13 has given us. Season 1 ended perfectly.

But aren't we always question what happened after the HEA in every story?

This is it. This is 7 years after. We couldn't expect to see the same sizzling hate to love arch. The same push and pull experimenting chemistry. The college vibes and the inexperienced handling of one's relationship which leads to childish conflicts.

Season 2 will not feature that. Because our two protagonists are already young adults who are facing current adult issues and in a 7-year relationship.

But at the same time, it doesn't mean everything changes. Tharn and Type still possess the same charm and character they have before, even almost all the already presented side characters from Season 1 remain as themselves.

Yet as 7 years pass, things and part of themselves also change. Type now despite still being the same sassy and foul-mouthed that he is, can now tell Tharn what was really on his mind without even a cajoling. We can see him not holding back anymore in either passion or love for Tharn. He has given his all, but because Type is Type... we know how he shows those affections.

On the other hand, Tharn is still that understanding, loving, and 'one-call-away' boyfriend.

But at the same time just like what Mew told during an interview, he said that we can see in Season 2 that Tharn becomes Type and Type becomes Tharn. In Episode 1 we can see Tharn being someone who turns off the alarm even knowing they can both be late. In Episode 2, we can see for the first time the angry look on his face that was never been shown throughout the Season 1. It means he can finally show the side of his that is not the angelic he was known for 7 years ago, because he was now not afraid that that weakness will lead for Type to leave him. He can finally be himself. It is not irresponsibility, it is only being human. Flawed, sometimes has temper and imperfect.

On the other side, we can see now the caring Type (which we also see in Season 1) but was magnified in the first 2 episodes of Season 2. We see in the past season how Type can go on a great length just to keep Tharn safe, but in this season we can see how Type really loves Tharn without any restraint. In the first couple of episodes, we can see the Type who can be sweet and knows how to give what his man wants. That is what we all call character development.

So please let us not compare Season 1 with Season 2 as we will not be giving justice to both seasons with that mindset. They are a separate entity, with their charm, storyline, and purpose. We cannot replicate another Season 1. We can only continue its story.

2.) For those who are having problems and negative thoughts about the NC scenes being too steamy and should be tone down... my dears... that is the reason why it is marked as for 18+. We are all adults here, this not our first time seeing those kinds of scenes. If I may be so bold, it was tamer than some others I have watched before. If you are not 18+ then please don't watch this show as it was not created for you in the first place.

I've seen some comparing it to light porn which is really an insult to those two great actors who had portrayed a love scene of 7 years couple with sensuality, love, and intense chemistry so naturally that you can even doubt reality from fiction itself. In those scenes, MewGulf created an art. It was a craft not many in the industry can portray with the same natural intensity. That's what makes them an on/off-screen couple so magnetic and captivating.

I have numerous share of romance movies/series (either BL, hetero, Hollywood, k &c drama) and only a few could even be on par on how natural and so comfortable their love scenes portrayal can be. The look on their eyes, their subtle nuances, and the palpable tension between them was a top in the love scene games. You can feel more than just lust, there is love and the feeling of comfortability in their gazes as they portray how a deeply in love couple of 7 years should act while lovemaking.

3.) I've seen a lot who has been comparing Tharntype to recently released BL series to the extent that I saw in the platform of those BLs Tharntype was being mentioned with shades and criticism. Just like Season 1 is different from Season 2, Tharntype is also a different entity to other BL shows too. It is not fair to compare something cut from a different cloth.

And also I could see criticism that Tharn and Type are shallow characters compare to other series. Yet I find them very pretty complex and Type's character development is quiet one of the most fulfilling I've seen (even maybe next to Moran in the light novel Erha). It was never rushed but a gradual one, unfolding despite the series only has 12 episodes.

We are free to love what we love and hate what we hate, and also loving a series doesn't mean you can't love other shows at the same time. For example, I personally so deeply in love with ITSAY that I can't still recover with the recent episode, and also can't even take the wait due to the postponing of GSP's last episode... but I don't compare them with Tharntype. Both BLs are a league of their own. Both are unique masterpieces. But it is only sad to see that some are comparing Tharntype and simply bashing in other shows platform just for the sake of finding inferiority.

Let's just enjoy all the shows as they are and how they make us feel. I know there is a term 'hate-watching', but there are a lot of negative things happening now in 2020, let's not add more negativity and just enjoy what makes us happy and what we loved instead of going for what we hate.

4.) Some criticize that Type didn't change... that he still hot-headed and after 7 years is still the same. Guys... what do we expect? Type will not be Type if he turns to be completely unType in just a span of several years. And neither Tharn nor the other side characters wanted that to be. That's part of his charm. His sass, tactless mouth, and someone who masks his love with feigning hate. But it doesn't necessarily mean too that he never changed. If you watch closely in the first two episodes, we can see how much he turns out into someone fully comfortable with loving Tharn.

So do Tharn too. As I mentioned earlier, he has also gone through development that makes him less angel-like and instead became a loving, loyal, and dependable boyfriend that is a flawed human who can feel jealousy can sulk and can get angry when he feels like it. He doesn't chain himself anymore not like in Season 1 in which he forced to tone down his possessiveness just because he is afraid Type might not like it or couldn't handle it.

5.) And also for those who said that it's been 7 years, but Type still can't fully accept he is in love with a man and why Tharn is still so insecure that he wanted marriage as a sort of chain in their relationship... let me just say that even years pass, it doesn't mean that people can't feel the same way for the principles they stand to.

There's the fear of being left behind after too many heartbreaks and after Lhong, doesn't just go away in a passage of time. Fear always has its way of staying in the deepest recess of our hearts. The gnawing feeling that history might repeat itself is very terrifying. Especially, that Type on Season 1 was known for the ability to do anything even breaking up with Tharn just for the sake of keeping him safe. What can guarantee Tharn that he might not do it again if worst comes to worst?

So in Tharn's mind, marriage is what will really bind Type to him and will secure and lock for the last time that fears he has on his subconscious(yet we know that marriage is not really the answer for some couple separated even married ones). But for Tharn that's his solution to his dilemma.

On the other hand, Type was not afraid of showing to everyone how much he loves Tharn. Being the simple-minded him, he was sure of his love yet he felt that they are already together so there is no need for it to be broadcast by marriage. (Which I can agree that you don't have to be married to fully commit yourself to someone). However, on a side note, his deep love for Tharn makes him do things that hurt him (Tharn) first just for the sake of doing what's good for Tharn. Because that's the Type way.

Both sides have their own reason that was valid but is contrary to each other's thoughts principles, and fears. It doesn't mean they are fighting due to a shallow misunderstanding of the past. It only means that it is a conflict of themselves, deeply rooted in their mindset, that they have to overcome throughout the course of the season.

6.) And also guys, please remember that Season 1 covered 2 books, while season 2 only has one as the basis of the script and plot. I've seen people complaining that it was a slow pace, that Episode 2 doesn't tackle much. (Which I beg to disagree, for the episode showcased the previous side characters again after the new ones were presented in Episode 1). It tied the 2 episodes' introduction and also at the same time shows us a sneak peek of what to expect and what happened in the duration of 7 years. Let's also not forget the last scene in part 4 in which there are no tears that can be seen yet the raw emotion in Tharn's voice and facial expression makes me tear up and hit me straight to the guts. It's the testimony of his fear of losing Type that will strengthen in the next episodes conflicts emerging.

We still have 10+special episodes more. People also complain before that Season 1 was too fast and they didn't catch-up on why things happen like that (Especially the scenes in Episode 4). This time we are given a season in which we can finally focus and explore many more details of the relationship and pacing that can give the scenes in the novel more justice, we still complain?

And we are also given a healthier and less controversial interaction with the two couples and we still branded it as bland? Guys, they are together for 7 years... the previous intense antagonism and push and pull is finally tamed into confident, sensual, and comfortable scenes between the two.

Maybe we just can't please everyone.

7.) And lastly, the complaints on editing and cinematography. It might not be top-notch, but it doesn't make it not worth watching. I've seen a lot putting a big deal out of it. It has flaws yes... which we all hope that they will remedy in the next episodes and let's not mention the eng sub problem of Episode 2 (which really made me cry for I also pull an all-nighter just to wait), but it doesn't mean it can affect how great MewGulf portray their role and give there hundred percent just for the sake of giving us the raw, real and imperfectly perfect version of Tharn and Type. The 2160 p resolution too was not bad and I like it for I love the ultra HD look of the scenes. The OST is quite good.

To sum everything up, Tharntype Season 2 has its shortcomings just like other series, but let's not judge it until we reach the ending. Some of us loved the Season 1 so much, that we felt like no one can match it (which is true), we just have to remember that Season 2 will show a different story and a series that still has to prove itself.

At the end of the day, we have to remember why we loved Tharntype in the first place and give this new Season the chance it deserves.

And for those who don't like the Season 1, you might want to give this season 2 a try but if it still not your cup of tea, then maybe it was not for you and just watch what you love and prefer. We always have our preferences. Let's not just hate things because they are different from what we love. And in the end, whatever opinion we have in the series, this is just a work of fiction that we use to relieve the boredom of reality.
