For a moment I was afraid they will go with this boring and predictible ending and make Aiba the white knight who saves Haruka etc but luckily Japanese dramas are NEVER predictible, there's always some twists and surprising moments which other countries don'toften have, that's why I like them so much lol
That being said I don't like gore so I had to skip some scenes in this movies
In my case I often prefer bromance because it focuses on telling a good story rather than, like in BL, focus on…
I agree so much about what you wrote about bls and bromances, that's exactly why I usually prefer bromances over bls. Also, beyond evil is such a mastepiece.
that the whole police squad was pissing me off lol they all had this aura of arrogance and tbh I found them so annoying that I didn't really care at all when Squirrel died. Also, I started to root for the villain to get away (he actually didn't seem to like what he was doing, he was probably raised by the shoemaker to be a killer and he was by his side bc of some kind of loyalty/stockholm syndrome and threat that if he doesn't follow orders he will be killed), like for real...I hardly ever find ALL "good guys" so irritating lol

Kiku/Izumi seems to be lackluster, it would be like Izumi just settled for Kiku bc he didn't get to be with Akito or Haruta
Also, Zheng Yi really became a murderer in the end
I can't tell I was a fan of the way the story progressed and ended
