Cleary you didn't pay enough attention to the drama. It's not that the drama denied Hyunwoo empathy, It's not about the divorce in the first place, it's about the marriage. It's not that Hyunwoo felt so much pain that he wished to get divorce, it's that there been so many problems that make him forget why he married her in the first place.
It's not about who benefiting from whom in two people relationship, it's about both consent. When you get married or divorce, it's always need consent from both side, not from just one side. From Hyunwoo side, because he forgot why he loved her in the first place. From Haein, because she felt she been deceived this whole time but deep inside, she knew it all along.
That's what it is. The emptiness of their relationship in the beginning that triggers the divorce in someway, that's what the drama wants to show, I guess. If it show husband wife relationship in realistic way, would anybody want to watch it?
