yes! I said last week maybe that I was afraid the drama would go this way but was hoping that it wouldn't. I mean…
even seung-hyo got a rational decent nice ex, but god forbid a man has a child and a past relationship and try to get into another relationship, i get the its still not socially acceptable part of a parent dating after their s/o passed, might as well have used that as a plot point
its not like he's too young, all the leads are 34ish, having past relationships is definitely a part everyone has different speeds in life even if mo-eum is childless, has had no prev relationships mentioned its not a crime to get into relationship with a parent who lost his s/o, even if they didnt and had a divorce, its perfectly fine
I understand that it was a harder topic to delve in since such relationships often have issues with estimation of maturity, and to some extent, one might be a bit more immature due to their for the lack of a better phrase, a lack of experience, maybe with marriage or with children, or the complex that stems from the difference in experience. i can kind of understand why they wouldnt wish to expand on it since they are not the main couple and leaving it be also would leave aspects such relationships unexplored
still, i feel, it could've been dealt with better instead of changing the narrative as per convenience
but on a larger scale, the childless selfless sacrificing uncle trope has to stop 😠it isnt bad and definitely outlines the characters traits but its overused and definitely doesnt require this many iterations of the same character for representation
characters with past relationships definitely need more recognition and representation, esp in mainstream dramas dealing with full grown adults who must've most probably had previous partners
the issue is, first love = permanent love is idealized and while it is certainly sweet and holds true for many most relationships arent and those relationships are strong as any other which imo should be shown more than the first sight first love permanent love
just one week ago i was appreciating this drama for being realistic about past relationships, people can lose their s/o and grieve, and it is an internal struggle to move on, esp with children
and those with children too, are worthy of love and can be in relationships, which is often frowned upon if the other partner doesnt have any, which is just unfair
but no, we cant have a character implied in love with someone previously getting into a new relationship, it has to be the selfless uncle trope
its high time we get rid of that 😠its repetitive and gets annoying
cuz bffr, past relationship, whether it ended in death or didnt work out, children or not, doesnt sentence you to be eternally single
i love that dan-ho was actually given a backstory, people can have previous relationships, and lose people and grieve. most excuse the child as some niece/nephew or an adopted child or something similar, just making sure the child has no relation beyond the emotional attachment b/w parent and child, which is stupid. it is not a crime to have a previous relationship, whether that ends with losing the s/o in dan-hos case or break up/divorce and having a child
they also made sure to show seokryus prev relationship with her being truly in love, not all relationships work out and your first relationship as is with many dramas doesnt have to be endgame
its a part of life
what i love most about this drama is its more realistic about relationships, not all relationships are meant to be, not all are soulmates, and not all previous relationships have to be regretted and feature a pos, and being civil with exes is normal
i saw many comments complaining why is seokryus mom reacting to her like this, we as people arent most rational in situations, getting to know your child was suffering is overwhelming and her reaction, though hurtful to seokryu, was absolutely genuine, not everyone can be rational and composed at all times, same with seung-hyo, the way he reacted was absolutely fitting, considering their history
the problem is, people are too used to unrealistic dramas, some aspects of ldn do not feed into the unrealistic perfect sequence of events which we're used to
