Hello, at one point in the drama it's mentioned that Ae Sin is past the age of marriage, and later it's mentioned…
Hey! yes that’s their age on screen but in real life they are 20years apart. And since Ae Sin looks extremely young I just couldn’t get into the romance without feeling some strangeness unfortunately. I know she was an adult, I’m not saying that it’s morally wrong or anything. I was just finding it weird that no one else was a little bothered like me. But yeah I’m glad everyone enjoyed the drama :), I rest my case
I wanna start watching this but I’m really confused regarding the ML. Isn’t it supposed to be Seo Kang Joon? Why isn’t he in the cast? can someone please enlighten me?
I read so many comments to see if anyone else was bothered by the leads age gap and nothing. I’m so surprised. 20 years is a lot, if it was the other way around, with an older woman, the comments section would have exploded. I’m trying to enjoy the drama, it’s good don’t get me wrong, but the the age gap between them it’s just so distracting. Even more because she looks so so young. He could be playing her father in another drama.
So, is Netflix just going to start taking all the successful kdramas and jdramas to the US? How annoying! Not quite sure why I’m annoyed at this, but it’s annoying nonetheless.
I liked the series a lot too, but I completely agree with your view on ML characters in Kdramas. It feels like a sort of “old Disney” syndrome. They too used to write most male lead characters to be very stoic and protective, perhaps contributing to a generation of women (millenials) with very unrealistic expectation of men. But I suppose that fantasy is part of the reason why Kdramas are so popular among females. I mean we do love it after all, it provides some warmth and escaspism like you said. But at the same time it would be nice to see some more realism written into the character in this type of drama. I think we would have loved Gwansik even with a few faults and arguments. Humans just can’t be that perfect I don’t think.
maybe one day kdrama writers would learn to write a romance with no past connection or childhood trauma lol
Nevertheless comes to mind. There is connection but it’s from a recent past, and no major childhood traumas. But many Kdrama lovers don’t like that show.
YRMS wins the prize of “Kdrama that is taking me longer to finish”. I love deep romance realistic dramas and also light positive comical ones, but this is just something in the middle that I just can’t get my head around. It’s been the hardest to finish, but I admit it could just be a matter of taste.
Amazing start but the more I watched the less I enjoyed it. And the final episodes just don’t make any sense to me personally. A shoutout to having a FL that is healthy thin🥳🥳. I hope at some point Kdramas will stop giving us FL that look like they have never eaten in their lives. Society needs healthy beauty standards, not unhealthy ones!
How funny.. I liked the Korean Nevertheless and still think it is one of their best romantic dramas. Most of K-dramas…
I completely agree with you. And I find it quite strange that so few people have this opinion and dislike that drama so much. The issue might lie within the eastern/western style. I feel like Nevertheless has a subtle western influence without losing the eastern essence, which in my opinion is very refreshing and realistic considering the generation being portrayed. I admire eastern cultures and have learned so much from them, but perhaps most drama watchers feel a strangeness coming from the western influence and find it mostly negative.
Contrary to many, I really liked the original Korean drama. It’s not often that a drama is able to portray that level of intensity and chemistry between leads. It was so great to watch! I think the purpose of Nevertheless (considering also the webtoon) is to make you feel the intensity and complexities of the main characters relationship, which didn’t come through at all (at least to me) in this Japanese version. I didn’t feel the connection and longing between them, it all just felt rushed and underwhelming. Some of you might describe the original storyline as toxic, and this one as a more mature take, which in part is true. But I personally just consider the kversion to be a more realistic (than the average drama) depiction of that generation. Even though I’m not someone who would fall in love with a man like the korean ML, I still could totally understand Na bi’s infatuation. I would tremble with her at the danger, even though I’m not that type at all. The same cannot be said for this Jversion. Overall, I think the acting was fairly good, spiced up with good looking leads, (suitable for the role) and a pleasing aesthetic style of filming. It was the screenplay and possibly editing that felt weak/rushed to me, even more so when comparing to the kversion. I feel the same regarding the OST, this version is nice but lacks the intensity and purity of the songs in K Nevertheless.
