I have seen a number of people getting upset that this "Adaptation" isn't following the same path…
Yes from 2003... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=naQKqp8Wppo
I didn't know it was an LDS production when I saw it. It fits the classic teen-collage something drama style for that era.
I guess the mormon church is looking to make "purity" based love stories for it's members. There is also a Beauty and the Beast inspired LDS romance out there too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMJoC9ynGtk
previous episode, i was shipping her with second lead guy..now i choose han kyul :)
I'm in the states and I turned 19 the same week I graduated high school. I think it all depends on when you start school and where you live.
Something to think about with the Korean age system. You are already 1 years old the day you are born, so 19 "Korean age" would actually be 18 "birth age".

Yes, the bollywood version it did follow the book plot in context, but there were clear creative liberties with the script, many of which were cultural and time period related but not exclusively...It was just the first example that came to me... There is always the mormon LDS version of P&P....or the recent one where everyone is a zombie....I love seeing how P&P gets interrupted over and over, but my personal favorite is the BBC version with Colin Firth, I think it's only missing 2 tiny scenes from the book.
I agree with Samsoon. It's slower paced, but I don't feel it dragging in anyway. The story itself is interesting enough to keep my attention...and there is Ha Suk Jin :)
After watching today and the preview for tomorrow, I think "romance" portion of this rom-com is about to pick up some speed.... There is definitely some strong hints of a love triangle emerging.
Viki has a channel for it
https://www.viki.com/tv/34532c-the-masked-lover
Viki does but I have no idea why the subbing is unusually slow...It's moving about 10-15% a day...3 days in and it's around 45% subbed. They must have a small team working on it.

I decided to delve a little into the magna, it looks like she's 16. In the world of K-drama there is no way they would keep the her a minor for more than a minute.
Curious if anyone knows, over how long of a time span in fiction land does the magna take place?

I didn't catch that she was 17. It is her final year of school so 19 makes sense to me when they mentioned it.It's a significant age gap when you're younger but nothing like the Goblin.

She's 19 ...I don't know how much older they are? They usually start in the music kpop industry pretty young. She does have that other kid in her band that likes her too.

I'll be curious how "kdrama"-afied this series will become, a story without a love triangle or 2nd lead couple is rare. There are several couple/triangle option possible at this point...
I have seen a number of people getting upset that this "Adaptation" isn't following the same path as the manga or the 2013 film.
Synonyms for "adaptation": alteration, modification, redesign, remodeling, revamping, reworking, reconstruction, conversion... An adaptation is a creation inspired by an original work, it can follow a very rigid line of similarity to it's predecessor or only leave the viewer with faint reminders. There is no rule as to how much or how little it has to resemble its foundation.
Pride and Prejudice is a prime example of a book with a million adaptations. It's been turned inside out countless times to fit various cultures, social groups, time periods...It's inspired books, movies, tv specials...The bollywood version looks nothing like Jane Austen's book, but it is still fun to watch.
The Kdrama version of Lover and His Liar will be 14 hours longer than the film. Plus...the film was produced in 2013, since then the manga has continued to be produced with regular installments through late 2016 and is still on going.... There is a lot of extra space to add backstory and character development you won't see in a movie or even in the manga.. We are only 4 ep in...so give it time...There is much more happening below the surface we have not seen yet... rather than comparing to much...I think it is best if people simply enjoy this for what it is... a cute drama.
It always takes a few episodes for the story to form a foundation, so I try not to be to quick to judge. As whole it will appeal to a younger audience, and those who like simple amusing and sweet rom-coms. It's not a complex storyline, the actors are young, but I liked it enough to want to see it again next week for the sheer "entertainment value".

I believe it is only exclusive in the regions DF operates in, Viki has a much larger global network. I have seen Viki host the same TVN program as DF but VIKI was exclusively for Europe.
I just couldn't get into Pinocchio or It's OK, That's Love....I have tried more than once.
I enjoyed Goblin from a creative imagery standpoint. I had some issues with the portrayal of God being a bit of a heartless sadist, who has nothing better to do but play with the lives of people in the cruelest of ways. The whole "sad love" thing just annoyed me...You have an eternal being who is in love with a high school student. She has 3 lives left after the one she is living. Soooo....The Goblin trades in his eternal rest forever to be with her... while she only has 3 lives and then her timeline will end. Will she always be a high school student, seriously??? It's like a revolving door of pain... Not romantic.
Bride of the Century _ I literally FORCED myself to watch, only after reading a blog and skipping a bit along the way. I found it boring... There were way too many manipulative and control women at work and those easily deceived, it. In the end, their punishment never seemed to fit the crime. Also I found it creepy that "oppa" was attracted to a woman who looked identical to his step-sister.
I personally really like Oh My Venus until it got to the last few episodes. IF my boyfriend was seriously injured and in the hospital and refused to see me much less communicate with for a year UNTIL he was fully recovered...OH MY GOD...That isn't love, Selfish-PRIDE isn't sexy...I don't think any drama has made me so angry with the script writers. Love is transparent, it is willing to be vulnerable and trust when weak.... It doesn't self protect until a state of perfection. Aigoo!
I didn't care for Coffee Prince or Legends of the Blue Sea, or Flower Boys....Heirs was just ok..Maybe if I was 20 I would have a different impression.
I liked DOTS but it didn't leave me with an overall...Ohh...WOW...I want to watch it over again feeling....

I just read in the magna Aki is 25 and Riko is 16, but it doesn't surprise me that the Magna author has a older guy dating a high school girl. There is a highly active subculture in Japan totally centered around it.... http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/asiapacific/from-scents-to-sex-the-business-of-japan-s-high-school-girls-for/3437844.html
