In the end, Nont was able to take care of everyone he loved: his mother and sister, his buddies: Kluay and Win, and he was also able to fulfill his promise to Fern's father: to save the house for Fern.

It's understandable for men his age to not want to be committed because he told Win that he couldn't even support himself. Like what he said to Fern when she asked him what he'd do if he got a good chance in a place far away from his loved ones whether he'd take his loved one with him. Besides, he didn't even know if he loved Fern or not. Fern's father shouldn't have burdened Nont so much by asking him to take care of Fern. He treated Nont as if he were a son-in-law. But Nont shouldn't take out his anger and frustration at Fern who knew nothing about her father’s request to Nont. After all, Fern herself never bothered him at all.

Nont was very cruel when Fern went to see him to tell him that her father had passed. So, Fern told him that would be the last time she would bother him. I think that she'd have told him that she was leaving for NY if he wasn't so cold. Don't understand why he didn't go inside the building at her father funeral because he went to her house at the end. Don't blame Fern for not picking u p his calls.

Agreed. Nont was so caught up in his work that he kept Fern out of his life. It broke my heart to hear him telling Win that he wasn't sure if what he felt for Fern was love or not. That was what finally pushed Fern to go to NY.
