Regarding the last interaction between Jinqi and Lanxiang:
in my opinion, when Lanxiang said one/this lifetime is enough, i think she also meant life in general. Of course, after loosing her Shen family, romantic love didn’t matter to her anymore. But she also doesn’t seem the type who wants to be born again. Her motto was always to cherish the life has been given and live well. I might be wrong but that’s what I inferred. Would love to know your thoughts :)

I think we’ve been accustomed to see most of the love stories where there is tension and heat and passionate proposals… that Lanxiang’s love for Jinqi seems dull or inadequate. But everyone is different and so is their story. In the later episodes, though a bit rushed, you can see the subtle changes, Lanxiang was afraid for Jinqi and cared deeply about him. If the drama had more episodes, surely we could see more of their relationship.

And yes, if lanxiang was more verbal, it would’ve been better. She does love him. It’s just both have different ways of showing their love. And I also believe Jinqi knew this too.

One of my favourite things about this drama is how each character is multilayered. They are not just caricatures put in the story to help the leads. With each episode, we see them in a different light. And all of this in subtle ways, nothing is exaggerated, and the progression feels natural. Kudos to the whole team 👏🏻❤️

That scene made absolutely no sense. It just displayed lack of home training and reflects badly on her parents.…
I don’t think it was out of her character. She can not be smart 24x7. Previously while working at the Lin residence as a maid, her mind was fully occupied with how to survive and get her family out of the slave bond. But now it is different, she has come back to the residence as a bride of the same guy whose family rejected her at the time of peril. And right after the broken engagement she lost her entire family in front of her eyes. The broken engagement is not what hurts the most but what happened afterwards…

Also, did she even get enough time to process everything?

That was powerful. Initially I thought the grandpa was implying that if Jinqi can turn his back on his parents…
You’ve put it so nicely. An emperor can give you something but can easily take everything back. Grandpa might be afraid too, cause last time in capital, the family barely survived by fleeing. Now that the siblings are going back and Jinqi is rising up… things can go south in a second…
