16 yrs diference that is not that noticeable... and netizens went wild. but the prime minister and me was 20 yr...…
As someone who watched that show as it aired...You're rewriting history... Post 2010, Ppl always complain over age gaps. They complained even more over Prime Minister and I bc the ML wasnt considered to be that attractive, on top of being older, on top of being paired with a visual icon like Yoona.
I think with this one ppl are looking for any excuse to complain over this bc the ML actor had some wild allegations against him.
its so odd how theyre trying to romanticize Yeonsangun, an actual real life tyrant king that existed in history…
These stories are not glamorizing what we deem to be true today, its a fictional story based on "what if he wasnt actually that crazy/inept?" We arent quite there yet in this drama but like many of these fictional stories that glamorize tyrants or inept leaders of the past... I'm assuming that we will see that this version of Yeonsangun is just pretending to be mindlessly violent/incompetent and the events that we know about him will probably happen in a different way in the drama. This is not romanticizing the real figure of Yeonsangun as we know him. There are a few historical dramas that truly romanticize cruel figures and what they did... Like Six Flying Dragons did this the ML was a villain even to himself but the story made you empathize with him. But based on what I watched so far, this drama seems to be taking the "what if" route.
So as long as they don't royally overcomplicate the plot... this has Kdrama classic potential. It's very 2010's vibes and the casting of Yoona makes it feel even more so. She knows that cliche-corny vibe from the late 2000's and early 2010's really well because it's how she started her career. And now she has better skills to pull it off as a real actress. People may complain at how cliche it is, but it is solid. I recently stopped watching kdramas bc they were getting so overly serious and boring.
I was watching law and the city and realized I hadn't seen him in forever. I assumed he was doing ok because Rebel was such a hit and everyone from that cast seemed to do well after that... but he's only been in like 3 dramas since then. Since they don't appreciate his looks, he should do what Kim Jong kook suggests, focus on toning his body, get some English lessons if he doesn't speak it well already, and then go the international route.
It seems like in SKorea, due to his body size he's gonna get type casted to historical or action dramas...maybe an occasional romance where he plays a big dopey lover boy like he is in law and the city... I hope he's able to make the best of it.
Why Mun Ka Young? She is awful, She's not even beautiful to be with Lee Jong Suk. Idk I just can't stand a drama…
Huh??? Say what you will about her acting, but the girl is drop dead gorgeous. There's a reason she's so popular even though many believe her acting to be mid.
So this is top mdl artist's ( lee jong suk) flop era ?
No, he just hasn't done a drama in a while so he needs something recent on the resume to show he can still act and have some practice. Don't want to get into a super big drama and be the most popular actor on the project and then shine a light on the fact that you might be a bit rusty. Also, since he's been on break this is the chance to try something different and break any typecasting trends... though his projects are already pretty diverse.
I'm sorry but Solo Leveling is not a deep enough story to make a good drama. It shines in a medium where you have to use your imagination to connect the dots, like a novel, a manhwa, or even an anime. The only way to fix it is to add or change elements to the story... but then OG fans of solo leveling are not going to be happy even if it makes total sense to change the story for live action purposes. So the best bet is to stick as close to the OG story as possible, bc then at least you can rely on views from the OG fans, even if ppl who don't know the story think its bad.
Then on top of that it has so many fantastical elements that unless they drop a ridiculous amount of money into it, the CGI is going to be a problem in itself.
The only pro is that they decided to make it a drama and not a movie. This is the saving grace. This needs at least 8 episodes. If they do less than that...
I just wish another actor was chosen, not because its bad casting, but just bc I don't want this actor to lose his winning streak over this. It took him years to gain his popularity and now he may lose it if this flops.
I'm on like ep 6 or 7.... but the ML lost me... I hate when ppl come to the worst conclusions about someone who shows they care so easily. I get it bc he's on a terrible streak of luck (or someone is purposely messing with him), but its still my pet peeve. I wish the FL would have at least had a line confronting him about that like "why wouldnt you ask me about it" but she just let it go since she likes him so much and he's always going through something. But then that way I'd feel better about it. It's a silly reason to drop, but alas... I'm picky.
Uh oh....If they're gonna do this and don't want to cause controversy... they need black writers on the production team. I'm sorry but Korean media has not yet proven itself to be able to handle telling stories that involve black people. Especially when black people are going to have to be portrayed committing acts of violence. This can go really wrong, really fast....
They have to make sure they tell the FULL story and avoid painting either side as fully innocent or guilty. And the best thing they could do is touch on how American police and government purposely instigated the beef between the groups, then failed to meditate when violence broke out. And not only did they not help, their intervention wound up injuring and killing ppl on both sides.
Everyone hates comparing but if the author didn't want it compared he wouldn't have debuted it only a year after weak hero. So that being said, I'm gonna compare it.
Though the MCs are VERY similar, their motives and psychological states are much different. The story is good but the fight scenes are extra frustrating if you liked weak hero's direct and thrilling style of fighting scenes. This character gets hit the same way 5 times before realizing, "maybe I should do something different" and I could appreciate that if they were going for a realistic development.... but then the camera spans over to the side characters looking all amazed as if its surprising the guy finally learns to dodge the same 2 punches he's been hit with for the past 5 minutes. It's kinda cringe. That being said its still early on, maybe once he gets a bit better, it'll be less cringe
The character's mental development is what has me hooked for now. This is where it really differs from si eun... I think he's gonna have some beom seok qualities... he's giving anti hero.
Am I the only one who didn’t really like how baekjin had to be defeated by baku then sieun and then Baku finishing…
I don't even mind that Baku had to get back up. I just wish he didn't defeat him with what was basically a sucker punch. Like... Baku got at least a whole 5 minute rest, maybe more. Like they could have at least let the villain get a chance to tap someone in for a bit too....
Ending was arguably bad. I’m going under the assumption that there won’t be another season, because if there…
I think there will be another season based on how it ended. The last scene basically left us with a question. Hopefully they've already filmed it though bc if they wait another 3-4 years our MC and any returning characters might not be able to play a highschooler again lol
Ending was arguably bad. I’m going under the assumption that there won’t be another season, because if there…
The end was so bad... the fight wasn't well choreographed until the very end, and then the way they defeated baekjin was so unfair, even when we know the MC is known for his dirty fighting style, it gets to a point... Especially when the fight is part of a deal and isn't just a fight.
I think a lot of ppl haven't read the webtoons so they don't know how much better the story could've been. Even if the writing was lackluster, the actors still did an incredible job so I can see why ppl who don't know the full story think this was greatest thing since sliced bread.
Meh... this season was not as good as the last one for me. I wish we got more into the mind of the villain from this season. They definitely tried with si euns growth arc, but it felt rushed and unfulfilling to me... and taking him out for an entire episode and a half with the white truck of doom didn't help. I get what they tried to do with that... it just didn't work for me.
Then the fight scene at the end... I didn't like it. Not only did it make the MC and his group look like absolute chumps, but it was super unrealistic. I know our MC is known for fighting dirty, but the fight became a 1v1 before he arrived, and Baku lost, then the MC taps in w/a weapon on and still loses, and then they SUCKER PUNCH the villain to win. Like come on... And why is it that the MC's side is allowed to lose 2x, and the fight isn't considered ended... but the Union leader goes down after winning 2x and then suddenly its over and Eunjang automatically wins? Like huh????
At least we got to see suho at the end. I wouldn't mind a season 3 where seong je returns as the main villain. And for as much complaining as I did, it was still better than a lot of dramas this year so far... so, I'll give it a 7.
There are times when sexual harassment specifically against men is overlooked but I don't think this is one of…
It seems like you are having trouble understanding the misogyny I am talking about and that is why you keep acting as if I am advocating for male harrassment.
There are ABSOLUTELY times where you can make the "if the roles were reversed" arguments in kdramas. NO ONE IS ARGUING THIS.
But peeping through paper walls is a common kdrama trope. Characters of all genders and ages have done this in dramas, and 9 times out of 10, it is portrayed the same way and received by the audience the same way. The roles ARE reversed. So acting as if they aren't, and there is bias where there isn't, brings out ACTUAL bias. And here, that bias is directed at women.
I will give a comparison using race, maybe a similar situation will help.
Sometimes in the US you will see a news story of a black kid beating up a white kid, but it wont make front page news... you will see commentary like "oh well if the roles were reversed this would be a headline story". Implying that the news is being unfair and treating the black kid with more kindness than if it was a white kid committing the same crime. But if you know anything about racism in the US, you'd know the roles HAVE been reversed. STILL being reversed. So making commentary about role reversal becomes a very ignorant thing to say. Now apply this concept to gender in this situation with the context that I provided...

But if done right, this could be a GREAT movie.
