From day one, he sacrificed his crown, his country, his happiness, and his own safety just to protect Seung-nyang and his people. He never wavered. And how was he rewarded? He was stripped of everything, lost his child, and was ultimately murdered by a weak, jealous emperor just to keep a secret. The fact that he willingly let himself be killed by Ta Hwan just to keep Seung-nyang safe makes it hurt a million times worse. He died protecting a woman who had already moved on to rule another empire.I developed a deep, burning hatred for Emperor Ta Hwan by the end. His love wasn't romantic; it was a suffocating, selfish obsession. He was too weak to stand on his own feet, yet powerful enough to destroy the most honorable man in the show out of sheer insecurity. Watching Seung-nyang tie her fate to him and choose the Yuan Dynasty felt like a complete betrayal of the pure love she once shared with Wang Yoo.Empress Ki is a masterpiece of political intrigue, but it is also a masterclass in emotional cruelty. If you want a romance where loyalty and goodness are rewarded, stay far away from this. Wang Yoo deserved the world, and I will never forgive this show for what it did to him.

As someone who absolutely loved Zhi Zhi’s novel Hua Kai Jin Xiu long before starting the drama adaptation, watching The Road to Splendor has given me major mixed emotions. The modified path of how the prince takes the throne and the devastatingly sad fate given to our loyal General Mo Yi were really tough pills to swallow. Most of all, I am struggling with the shift in Fu Tingyun’s attitude toward Zhao Ling after they arrive in the capital. I totally understand that the production team wanted to make their dynamic more realistic and grounded for a heavy political setting, but my heart just can't let go of the incredibly sweet, comforting romance they shared after marriage in the novel.I was really holding onto hope that we might get just one extra bonus episode at the very end to give us a glimpse of their lovely family life, but knowing that won't happen makes these changes even harder to accept. The drama is visually beautiful and well-made, but a piece of my heart will always prefer the pure sweetness of the book.

Totally agree with you! What is the point of divorcing if they just remarry at the end? It makes no sense and that episode 10 mess completely ruined the vibe for me. I'm so mad at the FL and feel so sad for the ML that I actually dropped the drama for now. I will only continue to watch this if the main couple gets married again in the end, but for now, we don't even know if that will happen or not
