You don’t throw away potential leverage by making it a national headline. Once it’s out there, it’s no longer a private matter. There’s no money to be made from this kind of exposure,only consequences. Defamation charges, reputational ruin, and the kind of backlash that follows you for years. So unless you think they wanted to destroy themselves, the “extortion of money” theory makes zero sense.
