Has so much potential but is ruined by bad directing and script

The "core" of the script plot is great and the actors are very capable - and then all that was just thrown out.... , Some moron made the capable actors act cringe.
ML is made to act poker-faced, 99% limited in his acting and extremely boring cardboard character;
FL is made into a stupid petty damsel in distress in ep 2 in the village /with ML - but she was confident and smart in ep 1 in the city;
and SML is made into a very ... simple fangirl/idol type character. And Ep 2 is filmed in a super simplistic and rather choppy way, and nothing is funny.

To save the drama, ML actor has to be allowed to express as much as possible - make him human!, FL has to STILL have those creative, confident, smart qualities she had in ep 1, and SML needs to be more than just a pretty boy.

To me, ep 1 was so enjoyable bc ML had only comedic scenes in the village, FL had amazing professional success scenes, informative personal scenes, and the villagers provided the energetic, warm scenes.

Then it all fell apart in ep 2.... FL came to the village and behaved like a total loser moron - ah so CRINGE,
ML was grumpy poker faced the entire time - ah so ugly and BORING -
and SML was used as a decorative object for most part. Ep 2 was filmed in a very choppy way and there was nothing funny about it. Even chickens flying around was not funny.

Someone said FL actress was in Doubt. That is a top notch drama. Whoever just turned off her acting capabilities in this drama and made her act the classic sexist "stupid FL" cringe, is a total and complete moron.

I have never seen ML actor before but I highly suspect he can act and wants to act, bc he looks so bored and forced in his overly simplistic poker-faced role, and his only good scene is 1 second of him being a gangster and smiling.

This drama is just throwing great actors to trash. The director is the most at fault, I think, then the script writer.

So I dropped. it is too bad, I wanted to watch this, but life is too short to waste on trash dramas

Even shorter:
Bon Appetit Your Majesty was a super hit bc the open-minded director let ML actor act as much as he wanted, with enthusiasm and energy. That Director was a genius who saw talent and let it shine.

Unlike the director here who is either a caked old geezer without any creativity OR playing it safe and staying commercial mainstream OR totally out of touch with the drama and the actors OR someone with $$$$ told him to make a cliche trash to sell -
in any case;

SOME MORON DIRECTOR IS KILLING THIS DRAMA BY FORCING ACTORS INTO CRINGE ACTING

And the audience is guilty bc Ep 1 was all about strong FL and the audience found it boring - bc audience is sexist as usual -

and audience was shallow as usual, finding villagers boring, finding old people boring, wanting young pretty faces as rich characters in a sleek urban setting - basically their own fantasy about themselves -

and the audience LIKED Ep 2, ML as cold and shut down and FL as stupidly dumb loser who keeps making mistakes and ML saves her - the cliche plot of all trash dramas - and it WORKS - Dynamite Kiss, etc are all such dinosaur cliche sexist trash dramas with huge following -

the Director served in ep 2 what he is sure will work and turned ep 2 into a cliche sexist obsolete trash-drama

the FL is an accomplished actress from a top drama Doubt and her performance in ep 1 of this drama is STELLAR. Whoever throws that talent away is a moron to the max

But the AUDIENCE is driving this drama into mediocrity at best
So the audience needs to cajole the director to let this drama go the way of Bon Appettit Your Majesty
ML actor is energetic, dynamic and I suspect he CAN act, FL actress is a masterful actress, and SML i am sure can act. SO IT IS POSSIBLE TO MAKE A GREAT DRAMA

"Organic junk food" - Meaningful script and plot, just filmed in a slow motion and LOTS of soap

Watching this drama is like eating organic junk food, like eating organic blue corn tortilla chips instead of eating trashy cheap chips. It is junk, but it is not all bad for you. There are even some nutrients.

This drama is super cheesy soapy cliche BUT at least the characters are decent people, emotionally and otherwise functional people, honest with each other, communicate, work well as a team, the plot keeps moving forward, some script is masterfully deep and most script is NOT useless cheap dialogue. So... if you are in a mood for junk food, this could be ok

This drama is not a bad thing to watch. The plot and script are quite healthy except the FL promoting self-starving for the sake of "beauty".. Otherwise, the drama is NOT toxic.
There ARE meaningful problems addressed. The drama is not overly sexist. The leads communicate and work well as a team. There are meaningful deep dialogues and lines, they are just spread thin. The acting is not bad although there are lots of young actors in here. For a nice change, esp FL actress has a decent level of acting skillZ and that is great. It is just how it is filmed, rather simplified and slow, the script is "thin".
So the drama has potential, it is just how it is filmed is nothing spectacular though. It is not trashy, but it is not ... too memorable. Bc it lacks a certain depth of warmth and humor. This is not a 10 star masterpiece.

.Imo the script here has a lot of potential, bc - although the story is cliche as all stories eventually are the same - life does not have too much variations lol this is still a unique story.... and the plot, at its core, is meaningful. This is not some ridiculous Crazyville or Boreville town. It is just ... simple and a little bland.
I DO appreciate using the kdrama trick to liven the scenes with Nature, every scene has plants, flowers, Nature in it.

The drama addresses some deep and meaningful social issues i.e. therre are meaningful problems to be resolved - both ML and FL were overly loyal to really bad relatives and have lived all their life in suffering.

ML should not be catering anymore to his sister, bc he is just an ENABLER in a co-dependent relationship, making his sister more and more entitled and bitter and never healing from alcoholism. ML ought to help her break through that, not help her stay stuck.
FL was smart to realize what her mother is like, and distanced herself, but FL just ran away without resolving anything..
Both ML and FL's problem is that they shut themselves self down by the orders of their family members very close to them, i.e. ML and FL were abused under the name of love.

The drama is about them now reclaiming themselves. FL is ahead of ML in this process.

The drama is just filmed in a super slow motion and simplified, rather bland... Trying to avoid any contraversy, confusion, and pissing off the audience... . LIke... a low budget film for the masses. Well it is what it is, and perhaps this makes it more watchable by more audience esp western audience canNOT handle complexity and depth, so the dramas and movies tend to get "predigested" to not leave anyone confused. Also, bc of popularity of kdramas, they get produced in mass quantities so there is that "run of the mill" reality...

THE SIMPLICITY
==============
Wow I paused this drama and as I was tryng to figure out where I left off..... I discovered that I watched ep 3 already - but the filming is so ... bland ... that I did not remember any of it, until I encountered the little bit of dialogue that I recognized bc I remembered it bc it IS meaningful. Esp FL has some really good lines, but not often enough :)

The drama is super slow, ie super simplified. The dialogue, the actions, the scenes... are just ... in slow motion simplified. The content is spread wide and thin. It is like 1 spoon of butter spread over one huge 2lb loaf of bread. There ARE some meaningful lines, but spread thin.

ML actor acting is rather simplified. FL actress gets to act a lot bc her script is better, she has the meaningful lines and more complexity and expressivity in her script - bc she has more acting skillZ. I just wish she were not a skinny plasticized barbie doll.

To see a drama with TONS of meaningful dialogue, It is Ok That's Love from 2014 is my recommended romcom, Or, KimChi Family from 2011

THE BAD STUFF: THE DRAMA ADVERTISES SELF-STARVING "BEAUTY"
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ah FL thinks not eating makes her look good? Nope. Makes her look like a tired pale ghost
THE DRAMAS SHOULD NOT BE ADVERTISING UNHEALTHY EATING HABITS AND SELF STARVATION, NO EATING, SKIPPING MEALS

FL is so weak, she keeps falling every 4 minutes she cannot even walk properly

and the "pretty face" is just plastic surgery, no muscles bc of dieting, and botox? thick lips, so that she looks like a goldfish with puckered lips. Also for some reason when Asians get rid of "slanted eyes" to make their eyes look bigger, the eyes look BULGING

It is not cute, it just looks unnatural and dangerous, UNHEALTHY ARTIFICIAL
No wonder AI will replace actors and just use their face - but bc of plastic surgery, they cannot even move their facial muscles

Also this is SUPER RACIST, to pay huge money and effort to have African thick lips yet the world despises Africans as lesser. THIS IS HYPOCRITICAL RACISM. This is not specifically for kdramas, this is kinda global

Great idea and great message, just a terrible choppy awful acting trash drama

I wish that this drama were great. The message is so wonderful and the world needs to hear it.
Unfortunately the drama is such trash

The acting is sooooo bad.
FL acting is just terrible and the others arent any better, it is so obvious they are PRETENDING something they do not really have any idea about.

The drama is so choppy like a children's play
it is really pathetic

Sorry I really really wish to have a better drama

Great acting!!! the Chef was too arrogant for my taste so I dropped

I watched ep 1, 2 and started 3 and watched 20 (the last ep) and QUIT. I could not watch the arrogant Chef yelling non stop and quit.
The little I watched, I watched bc the acting is great! I really loved watching the actors!!!! They are so HEALTHY looking!!!!! their complexion, hair, eyes, it all glows!!!! they are radiant!!!!

Unlike the modern actors who are super skinny, pale and tired.

And so the acting here is a lot more energetic and fun. So I watched, although I was not thrilled with the content.

The Chef is too much of a slave driver, and FL is too naive clutzy dumbish, and after a while I just could not take it and dropped out at the start of ep 3. I fast forwarded to ep 20 (the last ep) and fond that the Chef was still the arrogant slave driver. So I just dropped the drama. Sorry but

-------
ep 1 - it is NOT true that Chef fired all female staff - he fired all women but one, who quit, and he also fired 2 men....
and everyone fired was 10000% guilty - one harassed the guests, one was kissing with her boyfriend in the storage, and FL was stupid enough to walk around with ice cubes and cauldron of oil near the grumpy screaming Chef

it is true that Chef did not want women in his kitchen and would have found ways to fire them. But it was not bc he was sexist. It was bc he had a very unhappy breakup with another cook at his previous work..... So he didnt want female cooks in his kitchen. The fun thing was that THAT woman got him the chef job lmao
Also... female cooks were causing him trouble as they all tried hitting on him.

Chef was not necessarily sexist, but just an arrogant jerk overall, a slave driver to all his workers, a control freak.

FL was fired for being dumb. She ran into Chef just as he was firing a kissing man and woman and yeah Chef pushed her away but it is her fault that she was there .

FL IS DUMB NAIVE AND CANNOT READ THE ROOM. ALSO LACKS COMMON SENSE
so that is actually "the greatest"sexism of this drama

Masterpiece in the making!

wow this is amazing, ep 1 shows a new kdrama masterpiece in the making!!!

It is a family drama involving a city family moved to a small village .... so there are tons of fun scenes and actors

The music is sooo fun LOL spaghetti western with the ML village scenes LOL

This is a great comedy. Yeah there are all kinds of real life scenes, but everything is permeated with gentle or raucous comedy

the topics of the drama are not light :) We get to see a corporate-failed dad, school-failed older son, america-failed mom and 2 younger sons, and then ... various mysterious village personas and shady corporate personas....

The drama is really comical yet it is very deep and heavy, actually. That sense of lightness and VIBRANT LIFE PUSHING FORWARD is accomplished by being present in the moment....

Moment-to-moment, we get to see the depth and the lightness and humor in each moment, and the LIFE AND LIGHT that permeates everything and pushes towards healing.

kdramas are masters in that and this is definitely one of those pedigreed masterful kdramas .
It is MASTERFUL STORYTELLING. Showing the muck, the process out, the healing, and the transformation.

I love acting of the ML actor, he is one of my favorites.

I am not sure why it is only 1 episode per week, that is the only bummer.

Overall, this looks like a masterpiece in the making! A really fun drama, deep complex yet fun! The classic kdrama style, talking about super deep and heavy subject with a sense of lightness and humor.

Very well done, realistic

I really like this drama! The plot is NOT the Crazyville ridiculous... The plot is about two middle class families resolving issues because a man left his wife and 2 sons for another woman ... and had a daughter with her.
The 1st wife never officially divorced him, so when he died, there was a LOT of problems bc of the paperwork and gossip - his 2nd "wife" was shunned by the society bc she was not "the wife"

So anyways the plot is real, and the actors are mostly very good.
ML surprised me bc he started as a poker face, so boring, but since he met FL he is super charming smiley.
FL's mom is 10000% staunch narcissist but she is practical and gets things done, and is even fun and charming when she wants to.
1st wife is bitter but a a good person, giving, nourishing, fair
1st wife's sons are ... wow younger is a hypocritical angry IMMATURE food, and older one is a nice guy but is under the spell of his wife Anaconda Mei, she curled up all around him and is suffocating him... making him do evil stuff with her... Well that changed later... but Mai is not a great influence

SFL is a villain Do Hee - aka DooDoo is a classic subclinical psychopath and sociopath. That actress is great in that role and thus super annoying lmao She bullied FL in highschool and was fiance of ML until he fell for FL lmao She keeps causing trouble

FL is an honest decent person
and ML too. But - both are burdened by their moms and dads, who are materialistic and greedy. FL's mom is smart and charming, and ML's mom is dumb and dull and a real coldhearted cruel monster

So anyways, the relationship between ML and FL is quite healthy, so that is promising, they have excellent dialogues

In other words, THE SCRIPT IS NOT STUPID HERE :) RELAX AND ENJOY WATCHING

============================================
THE GOOD BAD AND UGLY
============================================
THE GOOD:
============
JH is the ML, JN is the FL
JH-JN script is very well done and the acting conveys it.

JH with his excellent people skills is a fantastic partner for JN. He comes under her radar bc he is honest and he is vulnerable in front of her. And also - he knows how to camouflage himself and lie just enough to soften the edges, so that the scaredy cat JN will not run away in fear. Omg they are perfect together! Their vibe is warm and deep and very very very fine and sensitive, there is no nailing down but a deep honest sharing, like two young people who were lost in the woods and are now holding hands to walk out of there and then walk in unison anywhere they want - they are going on a walkabout, Yeah it is a pair of artists.. Their relationship feels like a watercolor painting... well not too "thin" ... more like something she draws.

And we got to see JH do a perfect hit on JN... ! This was such a smooooooth come-on move, how JH just slid into JN's space, and won her over... ... wow JH!

What a smooth operator JH is, to just slide past JN's walls and barge right in but convince her it is ok... JH really has excellent people skills and is a super excellent negotiator ... and thus a great lover, he really knows how to meet JN on her territory and MAKE HER DO WHAT HE WANTS lmao In this case, he is working to make her accept his confession - but he is soooo sly and soooo clever and at the same time so HONEST about it... that she has no choice but to fall for him. He fits her perfectly.
The staunch forever-single JN found her match! This honest yet softly clever guy who even tells small white lies to make her comfortable... is trustworthy... and vice versa. JN is making JH more self reflective, more honest, and more straight forward. They are a perfect pair, nudging each other to grow.

PS - I also realized why I thought JH actor was too skinny - he has a really bad posture. Stand straight, man! and his face is so sunken. I hope it's not plastic surgery. Maybe it is Keto diet that pulls fat out of even the face....?

This is the scene:
JN: we must avoid each other. bc DH sees us and goes bonkers
JH: ok
JH leaves...

Later: JH sees JN alone in the cafe... He comes into the cafe and sits by JN and asks her how she is doing etc.
JN: didnt we say we will never meet like this anymore?
JH: sure, I am leaving soon
blah blah blah... he keeps talking and she talks back and they converse for like 10 more minutes ....
She is clearly open to him so ... he grabs her hands and gives her a shell and ..

drum roll!!!!

HE DOES NOT ASK HER OUT. Oh no this skilled hunter is not too fast!!!!!
He goes on the sympathy line and says - "I was so empty - but now I am going to be full. CAN YOU HELP ME?"

so he is reeling her in without openly claiming her in words - meanwhile he is holding her both hands lmao so it is clear he is claiming her - but his plea for help - he is MAKING HER COME TO HIM instead of him chasing her.

He didnt come out too openly to say I like you lets date - bc then she would say HECK NO GET LOST - instead he went under the radar and said what he knew she WOULD accept

wow what a skilled skilled .... swindler :) lmao Just kidding. What a skilled... negotiator. He knows how to sneak in under the radar and grab her.

JH really has excellent people skills. He is fantastic partner for JN. He comes under her radar bc he is honest and he is vulnerable in front of her. And also - he knows how to sugarcoat it and lie just enough to soften the edges, so that the scaredy cat JN will not run away in fear.
Omg they are perfect together!

That scene is finally going where ppl wanted to, leads are finally getting together, and it is nice, both JH and JN actors are doing a great job with emotional intimate sharing scenes, and flirting :)
And the scene is beautiful bc their DIALOGUE is really high quality. They are really deeply sharing. That is so great, makes an excellent story.

And is kinda pioneering work, bc that is the "new age" of more equal and more deep and meaningful relationship between the genders.... bc these two ppl are talking as equals - equally smart, equally intuitive, equally caring, equally honest, equally contributing - each in their own way... .... it is nice!!!! the woman is not a caring dumb and the man is not an entitled cement wall who blindly protects... as was sooo typical... ... ... also this is a more meaningful portrayal of deep love and friendship between two lifelong partners. I guess we are starting to see this new age coming to life... and becoming less of new age and more of normal how it is... yay!

Except .. JH gotta fill himself BEFORE he comes to JN.. she cannot fill him up
Please writer dont go the usual sexist route where FL acts as the psychiatric nurse to rehab emotionally dead/shut up ML...

=========
THE BAD:
=========
All actors in this drama are very convincingly real, except JH's friend who is a little too stiff but it does not matter since he has little screen time,
and JN, the FL... That actress acted flirty and emotionally deeper scenes with JH quite well - but the rest of the scenes are just ... fake... bulging eyes, flicking the hair... JN does not seem real, It is clear the actress is just pretending

THE UGLY:
==========
The drama again as usual relies on the the same old cliche "family approval".. The Joseon trope of family saying NO to two consenting adults is kinda ... lame at this point. Bc dramas **always** use it. I doubt that life in Seoul S. Korea is exactly like this today? Or is it really... ? Gasp.
I am so glad I lived in the USA, not the S. Korea :) and am free to watch this Joseon society from far away and just enjoy the good parts in the dramas

Currently on ep 6 and getting better - interesting twists and great acting

The drama does start with a typical sexist FL character - loser
but it starts quickly improving :) in ep 6 FL shows some spine
ML actor is fantastic
and the other characters are interesting, great script and acting

==== WRITTEN AFTER EP 6====
OMG, KBS seems determined to produce better and better weekenders! I am so glad!
This drama started well... very makjangy... but has quickly progressed into a very decent drama. FL is still quite stupid and backwards... the dad still lives in her house!!!!!! we all said we are dropping if she brings him... ? Bc of that I waited to accumulate enough episodes to see if the drama will become a trashy soap or NOT. Luckily the drama panned out into a very decent drama.

FL is unfortunately still a rather backwards loser character... luckily less than before... and the actress is ok, nothing special in terms of acting skillZ and her role too is too flat, too one-dimensional ... as is typical. All KBS weekend dramas FLs are very stupid and flat.
ML and the kid are really fun. The kiddo is amazing :) The other characters are interesting too, The gigolo guy, the younger siblings and the Fox.... they are all very complex characters, very good scripts!!!! and the actors are very good actors. The Fox is very interesting!!!!! She is smart and immediately figures things out and is usually correct - but rude :) Well the gigolo is interesting too but is a lot less mature or smart... and ModelTwin is a rather complex character too... we will see more of him when his bio mom shows up when he starts making money and fame :)
The bio-mom and her husband are such a nice family... on the surface lol Mom is a professional gold digger wow.... and such a CRUEL person... wow... $10K for the life of her daughter... Not even asking once about any of the kids... At least her husband is a nice person
and ML's friend is fun, and the one-sided crush chick is pathetically unreal.
The dad is ... clearly makjang but the actor makes it real. Ppl like that are out there in real life, for real...
Ah the side dish shop owner and her son are amazing too. I ship him with the Fox. He is THE ONLY suitable guy for the Fox. The roles are complex and the actors are great.

I really like the acting of ML actor, he is so expressive and really makes ML look like a real person...
The actor imo is clearly some kind of a ... player or businessman or something in real life... ? I dont know the person but he looks and acts as someone who is used wheeling and dealing and finds this plot a little ... childish :) and it comes out in his acting...
But he is a great actor, so expressive. I really enjoy watching him.

Overall, this drama is really promising, this could be the next classic! Let's keep our fingers crossed. Recipe for Love started well and then was ruined by being stuck for most episodes in the SAME stupidly boring issue, instead of spending episodes to show HOW it was resolved. Well ok you can say the issue was so deep that it took them so long to resolve it... But no, so many episodes were wasted on NOT resolving it at all... Ok whatever - the drama did not use its time well and spent too much time on the issue instead of resolving it and moving on. It seemed like the writer just ran out of ideas. Everything got MAGICALLY resolved in the last episode or two... wich is a very lazy script copout. It just did not feel real at all.

So I hope this drama KEEPS THE PACE until the end. It is going well for now! Fighting!

PS -

Know that one of the rare faults of kdramas is sexism, where FL is a clutz damsel in distress and/or naive goody loser -
and luckily it has gotten better over years, now at least FLs are competent at their jobs... but still, most kdramas have FL as a very very very immature and weak person.
IT IS IMPROVING, SO BE PATIENT AND KEEP WORKING ON ERADICATING THIS

Made for Pursuit of Jade and Hwood fans :)

Hm... This feels like watching... Pursuit of Jade or something like that....
Totally looks like a cdrama. A gaunt girl-like idol-face ML, male idol hype and worship... overly dramatic and self-important ... bombastic sensationalistic "pretty" scenes... plus psycho behaviors from ML and FL, and basically - two arrogant psychos getting together to rule the world.
Those are the hwood and cdrama bombastic details that somehow should serve as "the plot"

This is male idol worship and also worship of the rich and ruling. Just like hwood. For example, the scene of ML parading on that runway to the throne in ep 1 in his flowing robes - ah so mysteriously handsome... not. It is CRINGE.

I don't see dialogues, I dont see messages, I dont see content, the acting is cringe, there is no LIGHTNESS anywhere, it is so heavy and so self absorbed in its own self importance -

just lots of bombastic flashy scenes -

overall, looks and feels like a Chinese military parade or PoJ or some hwood trash - cdrams and Hwood are very similar, if you have not noticed yet :)

I am out of here, this is disgustingly content-free. It is a cdrama in Korean lol or hwood in Korean

TOO MANY RED FLAGS :) pun intented

I JUST READ THE REVIEW BY OPPA_ AND THAT IS THE MOST EXCELLENT REVIEW YOU SHOULD READ TO UNDERSTAND THE UNDERLYING BRAINWASHING OF THIS DRAMA.
>>>>Oppa_ review described in great more detail how Perfect Crown brainwashes ppl into romanticizing autocracy. <<<<<< I refer to it indirectly in my review and leave it to you to figure it out, but Oppa_ describes it straigt on and backs it with historical data.
(Oppa_ is a rather sexist person, based on statements againt women in their posts and reviews, so he/she did not comment on the male worship in Perfect Crown... but you have that in my review.)

Farewell :)

meaningless showy Kwood thing

What is the message of this drama? The plot is showy and unusual but there is no meaning to anything. It is just for watching mindlessly for fun , glorifying a killer as a good person
The meta message is significant, the society is messed up, ppl are hungry for anyone who can help curb the corruption, and there isn't much help .. Police, legal, judicial, government systems are useless... So we welcome mafia boss Vincenzo and killer sniper Bona as "helpers" and WE ROOT FOR THEM AS GOOD GUYS ...
But there is no deeper exploration of this issue in this drama.

It is very Kwood,

and I dislike wasting time like that. I feel sorry that I tried to watch 7 episodes. It was a waste of time. I wanted to watch just to see what ppl like but ... it was a waste of time. I got the idea after ep 1...

I dropped it and then read the comments for the first time after ... 4-5 weeks? bc i am curious how ppl think. I am interested to see how Hwood-style watchers get Kwood-type dramas and get satisfied from it. All the comments are so ... shallow about who did what or should do - there is nothing about character development and deep character analysis. People who watch this are not interested in deeper layers

I dropped it bc it is meaningless. What are the messages of this drama? The only message I was able to identify is that a killer can be a good person, a great wife and mother, doing a "patriotic" thing to help everyone get rid of evil.

and I think it is not a message that I need to be watching for 8 weeks.

I dropped it bc it is meaningless drama, without any meaningful messages, it is just for "shocking fun" - a killer is a good person, good wife, good mother. Yeah sure
Who / what is this message advertising?

I saw 1 episode and it was not funny to me at all... It was cheesy corny kinda "cheap fun hype"
like many hwood movies

so I dropped. I often give a drama at least 3-4 eps before I drop, but with this one, just 1 ep was enough - the vibe of this drama is not my cup of tea

I really like acting and roles of the ML actor and think highly of his work I saw so far, but this one ... I find ... too commercial mainstream mindless.... :) What is even the message of this drama.... ?

A very cool, fun, deep, profound kdrama

So cool. this is a really well done kdrama. I gave it 10/10 so far bc it is not just a fun fluff drama. It really goes deep. It is profound. And it has SOLUTIONS. I am impressed! The acting, the music, the dialogues, his thoughts, the entire script - is just masterful.

The 1st ep gave me a solid taste of what it looks like to live in Seoul, where just breathing costs you millions of won... It kinda looks like NYC but with all new amenities. Like, NYC but with subway that looks like airport subways... Wow what a nice looking jail he lives in as a hamster on a wheel...
with a little bit of fat liver, dry eyes, a slipped disc and what else did he say?

THe angel came from Heaven and he ... gave him a lottery ticket... I was rolling with laughter with those scenes omg so funny....
Then the scenes where he imagines his potential lifestyles... OMG so funny! WHen the assistant manager fainted and the BigGuy ducked behind the mannequin, I was laughing so hard, the whole neigbhorhood heard me... Omg when he walked out of the limo , that smug face lmao

How can that guy look so good if he eats 3 BIG fried pieces of bacon and 2 big beers for dinner... ? I was thinking - that was probably for real. His apartment looks like a little luxury one? is that for real too? Offices are for real too... But then - are office interactions scenes real?

I was thinking - wth is this - is this how office ppl interact with each other in Seoul, S. Korea? It looked a little toooo western direct for my preconcieved notions of how Koreans interact, esp scenes of lady boss and her subordinate... looked too much like Miranda from Devil Wears Prada ... - but ... I do not know for sure. SOMEONE TELL US, DO OFFICE PPL REALLY INTERACT LIKE THAT IN SEOUL. S KOREA?
But when he worked it out with the manager, I was like yeah, this is Korea, this kind of stuff would NEVER happen in the West :) in real life or a drama/movie lmao Well maybe it could. But not often at all :)

So to me this drama has all the stuff that mark good kdramas - wicked sophisticated and compassionate humor, profound messages, character work and growth, and community work and growth, and yeah great acting, great dialogues, great script, music and filming/production. It is just ... elegantly sophisticated warm inspirational and educational. As a good kdrama always is :) I am a fan :)

The actors are so fun and their scripts are so profound - the money angel, the "spend the money" angel advisor, another "spend the money" angel advisor - ML was sooo lucky that 3 angels came to help him set the course for his new life... then ... the unruly senior, the two grumpy up bosses, ... and the spice of subordinates, the first mentor, ... the lady who is hitting on ML... It is a whole bunch of really smart people speaking their mind...

And yeah ML actor is absolutely perfect in this role. The drama was made for him :) Bc he is such a quiet polite guy, hearing his thoughts REALLY helps to understand him. And his idea of "angry" is very ... polite :) But the actor acted such a great range of emotions so well. ML really seems like a real person

Wow kdrama :) Let us pray lmao that it keeps to the end

Not a thriller but a live webtoon! - Proof that strong silent types only cause damages

WRITTEN AFTER COMPLETING:
==========================
I thought this drama will be about father-daughter relationship, but heck no. It is about Agent Kim and his friends beating ppl up. So this is like a more sophisticated adult version of Weak Hero Class 2. Just fights fights fights

The father-daughter relationship starts in the dumps, they never talk, she is hostile, she keeps important secrets, goes out alone at night, etc, causes MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR trouble and then her dad beats everyone up to save her. Sure he saves her and they hug for a minute AND THAT'S IT. There is no character devopment. even the daughter said nothing changed lmao
and his new job definitely got things worse

Sure they had a few sweet moments at the reunion but then.. their life was the same. Well maybe she wasnt all that hostile. But they still dont talk and it feels ... empty. And his new job will create a lot of lying

AND YEAH I WAS QUITE BORED WITH THIS DRAMA. A LIVE CARTOON IS FOR KIDS. I want to see more character development and stuff like that, stuff that real grown ups like to watch. Not some stupid fights.

And for me to be happy about the father -daughter relationship. I wanted to see them doing stuff together and talking, not him going to get this "new job"

But again someone said, the webtoon is about Kim continuing in his spy life, not about father-daughter relationship.

Kim is gonna be an agent forever - and that is the fun part, and who cares for his daughter - is the message of this drama.

AND YESH THAT IS NOT THE KIND OF DRAMA I WANTED TO WATCH it is too shallow and childishly stupid

and I watched or fast forwarded to the end out of curiosity about what ppl like about this MAINSTREAM bologney and I certainly got my answers!!!!

Tthe father-daughter ended up about the same.. Sure they are not hostile anymore but we did NOT see anything that qualifies them as a good family.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WRITTEN AFTER EP 1: while i still naively believed that this will be about father-daughter relationship :( Apparently, the webtoon is NOT about father-daughter relationship but about agent Kim working as a spy
==================
I like ep 1 as a start. I do not see this as a fighting drama, so if it goes that way, I will be disappointed. I see this as the generic issue of bad parenting. If the drama resolves that, i will consider it a masterpiece. Sure add some fighting as a side dish, but the main issue is PROPER PARENTING. Also it will be really fun to see Ji Sub act more than just John Wayne, Ji Sub is a cutie so it will be fun to see him as a proper father. In ep 1, he is a John Wayne strong and silent dinosaur and a parental failure.

This drama is essentially a story of bad parenting, the doting parent who NEVER talks with their kid and never takes the time to actually RAISE the kid. Kids need more than just food on the table...
There are many teenage kids in this drama, and they are all total clueless morons who lack any common sense and keep causing problem, unfortunately the entire drama is a product of bad parenting
NONE OF THESE KIDS HAVE ANY SKILLZ FOR LIFE = THE PARENTS ARE 100% INCOMPETENT

In Ep 1, this awesome special agent totally fails as a parent and as an agent, completely disregards his daughter and leaves her hanging all alone as usual, completely disregards common knowledge of bullying in schools, and perhaps he has already caused death of his child.

So forget special agent life and skills... when this special agent is a clueless moron for LIFE and incapable of talking to his own child.

SO THIS DRAMA SO FAR HAS A GREAT ROOT CONFLICT TO SOLVE, THE SAME CONFLICT THAT ALL PARENTS FACE AND ESP PARENTS WHO FAILED TO ESTABLISH A HEALTHY CONNECTION TO THEIR KID AND NEVER COMMUNICATE WITH THEIR CHILD DEEPLY AND PROPERLY

So the drama starts with a great generic and widespread issue of bad parenting and kids who grew up on their own and are thus clueless and behaving against the laws of survival and common sense

So... and at this point the drama can EITHER sink or swim

Imo the drama would sink if it becomes an empty shell and be "Weak Hero" quality with fights and special agents

Imo this kdrama can become a truly great drama where parent and child finally establish themselves as a loving caring family and a dedicated team that communicates well and works well in tandem with love care compassion and mutual understanding

AGENT KIM MUST RAISE HIS DAUGHTER PROPERLY

his daughter is behaving in ways contrary to the laws of surivival
The daughter is so clueless incapable of living
and that is all fault of her father. AGENT KIM HAS TO LEARN TO BE A PROPER PARENT WHO TALKS TO HIS KID AND PAYS CLOSE ATTENTION WHAT THE KID IS DOING OR NOT DOING.

IE AGENT KIM HAS TO GUIDE HIS DAUGHTER

No content... flashy scenes, fake acting, silly dialogue

Well this is like a slide show of very sensational and/or pretty images, whizzing by fast...
The acting is sooooo fake... soooo cringe... ough bad!!!
and the dialogue is super simple and rather silly

it is just over the top bombastic and dramatic
I doubt there is any humor in this or any lightness

it is great for audience that cannot focus on acting
Basically a short vertical but in a long format.
========

PURSUIT OF JADE - wow what a scam lmao
I just read an article about Chinese government's public announcement asking for focus on good scripts rather than just looks ... and millions of fans, international too, are saying they just care to see a pretty face and how the ML actor is so beautiful...

I would say to idol fans swooning over the "beauty" of these Chinese actors: Capool beautiful LMAO Chinese military publicly complained about ML not looking like a man... Indeed, he looks like a porcelan doll skinny sickly teenage girl .... yeah with tons of makeup...

Gees, I found myself symphatizing with Chinese military and Chinese government LMAO Never ever expected that :) but on this issue, I totally see their point :)
And I wish them good luck... It is their fault they dumbed down the ppl so much that this is happening... the people do not have any interest to think about deeper subjects and they only care to swoon over some pretty boys.... HOW COME IDOL FANS ARE NOT PROTESTING THE WAR IN IRAN OR GENOCIDE IN GAZA - OR THEIR OWN GOVERNMENT? but are playing hookie worshiping porcelan-pretty faces?...

So funny, the cover photo for the "popular actors" shows 4 ppl 2 men and 2 women - who look almost identical... And inside the article, all these ppl look alike.....

The new trend is a triangular jaw and a unisex look, same for men and women... and they all look like porcelan dolls and like teenagers... They look like they came out of a cartoon..... So weird

So unhealthy.. they all look super skinny, like starved teenagers...

And even a funnier thing, the West is swooning over a cdrama, so communism WON globally LMAO
Pursuit of Jade is the best terrorist attack from China, ever LMAO
Holywood is dead and China gets to brainwash the world! Lol but with Holywood-like dramas lmao No content, just the looks and hype

THE WEST HAS SWITCHED TO CHINESE !!!!
The idol fans are great at spreading Chinese influence :) I never expected this but there we go

I wonder what will come out of this - world peace OR spread of Chinese communism lifestyle.. OR... spreading Hollywood under Chinese name... ?
Let's see :)

Also, Chinese seem to be only able to protest their government by choosing to watch these Hollywood-like delulu shows focused on the shallow ideas of some external beauty and without any meaningful messages.

This is certainly going somewhere....not good lmao

Creative amazing storytelling kdramas are going extinct... The ingredients of a good story:
part 1: flaws,
part 2: falling and having to try hard to get up
part 3: transformation
are to be found only in kdramas.
Unfortunately, new kdramas tend to focus only on the Holywood recipe to show only the TWISTED PART 1: flaws and making more and deeper flaws...

as the Hwood fans switch to ASIAN DRAMAS WITH HWOOD FEEL - essentially Hwood minus too much s.x and violence - the ex-Hwood ppl bring their preferences ... and since the West has the $$$$$$$$ and hundreds of millions of users... they call the shots

Asian dramas are going Hwood way. The totally wicked unexpected twist is that Cdramas - as most fake, silly, dramatic, shallow, meaningless, and sensationalistic - are closest to Hwood so ppl love them LMAO

This turn of events is better than any drama out there LMAO but it is actually scary and sad.
Idol fans are blind and irrational, and lack common sense and objectivity , so them overtaking the world is a scary thing

So let us see what happens :) The way it is going, this is my prediction:
THE IDOL FANS WIN :) ultimately, as the world slides into Idiocracy, 2006 american movie, or american movie Equilibrium, but not quite, bc ppl will be like porcelan dolls and not able to live their own lives.

Eventually one day everything will look like that cheesy cdrama, just a bunch of fast whizzing images and nobody thinking. Then the whole world will collapse and we EITHER enter Matrix movie or everything disappears and humans start from scratch

If you like holywood, great, this will please you, here is LOTS to see and nothing real is happening. The conversations are menanigless, short and supposedly witty and funny. You will feel right at home!!!!

IF YOU WANT SOME SUBSTANCE AND SOME GOOD ACTING THEN ... RUN!!!!! dont waste time on this drugged-out fantasy without content
and the acting is super bad

the whole thing is fake

yeah the story is kinda interesting but the execution of it is a total hoola boola smoke and mirrors show, just a whirling non stop some kind of crazy happening, AND NO CONTENT
