I just finished it and this drama is soooo good. I dropped Cdramas for more than two years and in my opinion this is the best Xianxia since Eternal Love. You should definitely give it a try. You might fall in love with every character, even the side characters. The story only gets better and better as you keep on watching. CGI and costume design are also very refreshing to see.

I think DFQC's plan was to first trap Taisui in his Xin Hai (Sea of his Heart) because XLH once planted a seed there in the beginning of the series. XLH is the Shen Nv so she's the only one who could trap Taisui. And then, because DFQC merged his soul with Taisui, DFQC planned to burn his own soul together with Taisui, so they'll both die and XLH won't have to die to save the world. But Taisui exists in the darkest place of every person's soul, and DFQC couldn't bear the thought that if he sacrifices himself, XLH won't remember him- the happiness, the pain, and everything they went through together and also everything he's done for her- so DFQC having just a little bit of hesitance was the opportunity Taisui needed to take over DFQC's body.
