I can't count the number of times I cried while watching this show. It's too realistic. I especially connect with Qi Ming Yue because of her relationship with her mother. Her mom always pushed her to be the very best and was super controlling. Some words that came from her mom's mouth is exactly the same as my mom's. I've had my mom break up many of my friendships with other people because their grades were too lacking and instead introduced me to friends who received high grades. She kept comparing me to my smarter, more competent classmates. I've taken the SAT four separate times because she wasn't satisfied with it. The only time I've ever actually received a compliment from her was when I got into a prestigious university. She wouldn't stop boasting about it to friends and family. I really do think that I've developed an inferiority complex from the amount of crap I've received growing up. But I know that my mom is only like this because she wants the best for me so I can't hate her.
Although she mostly does support/background characters, each one of them is portrayed so differently. I've seen her as a loving daughter or a strict wife. She's super talented
