I think some reviewers missed out on why the ml quit his job, it wasn’t a “humiliation ritual”, it wasn't for the FL etc. The over arching theme of the story was the instability of the court, the story begin with it, fl’s entire family being killed over a small infraction. The story asks what do the people do when the emperor is an unwise one. The FL’s path was that she didn’t agree with serving an emperor whose father murdered her family, she believed that serving in a court close to the emperor when the times are turbulent would lead to disaster, a view that the Elder Lin held too. This is reiterated by Minister Han’s demise. Always love watching Liu Xueyi and had been looking forward to his show. Enjoyed the familial bonds within the Lin family and also between the Fl and her adoptive parents. Loved the 3rd sister for her intelligence and loyalty, when she pinched herself and reminded herself they were a team. The 2nd sis circling back to Xie Zhao was a good touch. The FL never being able to acknowledge the Shen family was sad but that was used to show the power of stories and the written word.
