They’re pure mortals chosen by the Goddess Baize. You can hear the Goddess saying she will pick a pure human to protect DaHuang during ShenNv and ChengHuang backstory. Even with the token they’re still mortals. Guess their only fault is depending on the token and their demon friend they make/fall in love with to protect them instead of learning to fight etc.

I’m so sad yet glad they didn’t do the cliche fl running and hugging ml to snap him out of his killer mode trope in this drama. I’m understand it’ll take time for WenXiao’s shock over the truth but hurry, our demon is so broken…😭

The sad part is she and ZhuYan didn’t even have their half of the token cuz it was taken out to repair the gateway, it was hanging in the sky before it was destroyed. WenXiao had nothing to help stop ZhuYan. 😢

From some short reels I’ve seen it looks like he went berserk and prob hurt his friends. 😢 He was even wearing the same outfit as you described too, floating with his red demon aura with WenXiao bleeding from the mouth looking up at him.
