I personally think it's better not to force yourself. Just because the majority loves this show, myself included,…
Thank for your reply! Maybe I will do so and take a break and get back to it sometime in the future! (Maybe it's just my squick with the trope itself. It really annoyed me in "Ashes of Love" as well, because for all that the FL was supposed to be "unfeeling" she made very overly emotional decisions instead of thinking about things calmly and with logic instead of feeling. So when I saw the FL making very emotionaly driven decisions as well it just annoyed me. Maybe that feeling from AoL just carried over to this show somehow)
I've tried watching this show 3 times now and everytime I had to drop it. Please be honest with me, if someone doesn't like the whole "protagonist 'supposedly' doesn't have feelings but somehow still lets herself be guided by feelings constantly instead of logic"-trope and if one is not a fan of useless misunderstandings and the typical "airhead FML / pining ML who constantly suffers needlessly"-trope... should I honestly try again or would you tell me to better leave it. Because I'm already starting to resent this show and I feel like that's quite unfair of me...maybe I should just stop trying to force this on myself :/
This looks promising and the comments and reviews are reinforcing this. However the 50 episodes is quite the commitment…
I felt the same when I got into Xianxia dramas and I had this problem with a lot of romance xianxia dramas especially. Usually around the middle or end bit, the shows dragged on terribly, often because of needless misunderstandings etc. (For me, shows like "Ashes of Love" or "Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms/eternal Love" etc. are examples of this happening) and I would dread starting new long shows because of these 'draggy parts'. When I started "The Untamed" at the beginning of last year, I had the same worry but was quickly proven differently. With this show, for some viewers the first few episodes are actually the "hurdle", as the show throws you into the story a bit abruptly and some are left confused, but if you make it past that, the rest will be absolutely fast-paced and you'll reach the end in no time - and like most of us, maybe you will wish there were more Eps as well :) I hope you will give this a try, as I have watched a lot of chinese xianxia dramas in recent years and this remains my favourite to this day :) (I am a bit biased though, can't help it!)
I like fantasy series. But I am sceptical to watch this show as it is BL romance. I have nothing against BL but…
As the others already said, if the BL thing is the only thing that bothers you, then don't worry and give it a go. There's a reason it's tagged as Bromance as well. You can interpret it the way you like. The main leads are soulmates, with or without romance. You will find no explicit romantic elements (like kisses etc.) in this (not even with hetero couples) :) (You should stay clear of the original novel this show is based on, though, as it's explicitly BL)
That was absolutely lovely! A truly wholesome show that was fluffy, funny, adorable and romantic. I'm not only in awe at all the amazing side-characters (how rare is it for a BL show to NOT have an asshole side characters whose only job it is to annoy the main couple? Not here though!), I'm also in awe at the wholesome and healthy main couple that is Adachi and Kurosawa. It is so rare to see a BL couple with such a healthy relationship. Kurosawa is so absolutely in love with Adachi but he is SO respectful about it... I wish it was like that all the time. I'm so tired of aggressive, arrogant etc. love interests. And Adachi so cute and it's a joy to watch him come out of his shell and learn to live with his insecurities. A 10/10 from me, I wholeheartedly recommend this show :)

It's been almost one year now since I first watched The Untamed and I'm still not over it. Without a doubt, the best drama I have ever watched...and I have watched a lot. Just wanted to come back here to once again confirm that I'll never regret giving in to the hype and watching this show. If I could give 10/10 again, I would.
If ashes of love wasnt my cup of tea should i watch this drama or dont bother?
Glad you asked this as I have similar reservations about this drama. About what I didn't enjoy in Ashes of Love (slightly spoiler-y!): I didn't enjoy how JinMi's character progressed in AOL, how despite supposedly being "emotionless" she nonetheless got somehow seized by grief (???) and then literally and metaphorically stabbed the main lead in the back due to misunderstandings. I don't enjoy forced/unnecessary miscommuniation and mistrust between Main leads as a plot-device. So if anyone could tell me if L&R is those appear as a plot-device, I'd be grateful :)
This show was meh. The first half was fun to watch and kinda cute if you're into that dynamic where one is a tsundere…
Same... they just felt like friends to me, which would have been perfect for a friendship show but for a BL show it was simply weak in comparison to similar dramas. And it's not even the lack of skinship, just the lack of chemistry, I guess.
I feel like this show would've been a good friendship story but since it's a BL I found it lacking. Maybe because it was so hyped, I went into this with too high expectations but this show has no re-watch value to me, sadly. I know many disagree but Tine and Wat just felt like friends to me. Before you come at me, I don't need kisses or sex in BL shows, there are plenty BL couples who have crazy chemistry without that... but Tine and Wat didn't, at least to me. Maybe I've watched too many BL shows and become spoilt in that regard. Many actors can make me forget that they're heterosexual but with those two it was all I could think about... their 'affectionate' scene always seemed like someone was telling them what to do step by step. The extra episodes actually confirmed this to me even more, because although we get kisses in those and even though they're actually "together" they don't seem like they've been together for a while... I've been in a relationship for many years now and some things just become "natural" after a while, which seemed akward between Tine and Wat...
So yeah, personally I'd say it's a cute show with an interesting premise and "twist" I guess but if I had to rate it chemistry-wise it'd be very low on my list. Sorry :(
I dropped after 6 ep. it's boring and no love story((
Recently there's been an influx of "new" mydramalist-accounts who come on here to just to leave negative reviews ... usually I'm not that suspicious but this is literally the 5th comment I've come across by a "new" account calling it boring (after only having watched a few eps). I hardly think it's a coincidence...
There's no other drama on this platform that I regularly get back to just to check the comments and the rating. Hell, I even changed my icon on here for the first time after several years. It's been almost a year for me now and i've fallen hard into MDZS/"The Untamed" hole...
If you're thinking about watching this but you're unsure, just go by your gut feeling (or just give the first 5-10 eps a try). There's a reason the rating is so high and the comments are mostly positive (usually ratings drop after a while and reviews get more critical).
I'd say, if the general vibe of this show (i.e. xianxia / action / bromance / fantasy / mystery) is right up your alley, you should definitely give this a try. It can merely be a bromance show to you, if you like. If you like Boys Love, it can be that for you as well (maybe check out the Boys-Love-novel this show was based on, called 'mo dao zu shi', if you enjoy the BL aspect of it). All other adaptions are great as well (manhua, donghua, audio drama etc.), as well as the OST and Behind-the-scenes stuff for this show.
This show has really changed me a lot. Usually I'm very sceptical with "over-praised" shows like this one but I'm sooo glad I got over my scepticism :)
Q2: I saw a scene where Lan Zhan was soaking in the cold river and he had the exact same burn mark in the exact…
And in regard to your first question: Do you mean "The Untamed Special Edition"? If so, that's basically just the show but with some additional scenes. Nothing extremely new, though, mostly longer cuts etc. You can find direct comparisons of each versions on YouTube :) But there are also Spinoff-Movies to "The Untamed" so if you meant those specials ("Fatal Journey" and "The Living Dead"), they're are basically just side stories to the main story line :)
Q2: I saw a scene where Lan Zhan was soaking in the cold river and he had the exact same burn mark in the exact…
Hey, in regards to your second question: If I remember correctly the burn mark is only really explained in the novel and not in the show, so I'll tell you but beware that it may be a novel spoiler: During the 13 years where Wei Ying was dead, Lan Zhan got drunk once and I think, due to his grief, he kept searching for a flute that looked like Wei Ying's but instead found the Qishan branding iron which he then used to burn himself with in the same place as Wei Ying.
Can someone enlighten me about this. This is not BL so meaning no showing of affection and/or intimacy for same…
Although it's already been answered, I'd also to answer you. The show is based on a Boys Love novel, so, canonically they're married. But due to censorship, there is no actual Boys Love in the drama. The most "intimate" interactions are things like piggyback-rides, handholding, laying on each others lap etc. Hope that helps :)
I really liked this show a lot and can recommend it. While I knew from the beginning that this show was going to be a more faithful adaption of Feng Jiu's and Dong Hua's book story, I still had trouble picturing beforehand how to put it into context of its "predecessor" (if you want to call it that) "Ten Miles of Peach Blossom", so, if you're like me, let me explain it like this: While this story basically plays out parallel to the story in TMOPB, we only hear about their protagonists, Bai Qian and Ye Hua, in passing as it's not the focus of the story (although Bai Qian makes a guest appearance). You also need to forget what you saw about FJ's and DH's story in TMOPB because they basically picked small plot points from their story and shaped it to fit into the series. After having watched "Eternal Love of Dream", I can now see where they got some ideas from but it's really a completely different story. Therefore, you also don't need to watch TMOPB for this, the two stories don't really connect with each other a lot in this.
About the drama itself: It's a lovely watch and a wonderful mix of lighthearted humor, emotional plots and action. While I loved TMOPB a lot when it came out and it was (is?) universally loved, I feel like the novelty has worn off for me, so ELOD felt like a breath of fresh air. Although, to be fair, both shows are just very very different. TMOPB is very emotionally driven, I've cried a lot during the show, whereas I didn't really cry during ELOD but I also feel like the latter was more lighthearted/humorous in general, which I enjoy (or rather, which my poor heart can handle better).
It was very captivating/enjoyable to watch and the actors really excelled in this. Dilraba was incredibly cute but portrayed her slowly maturing character well. Special props to Vengo Gao, though, because this dude can act. He plays like three different people in this show and all of them seem like three completely different people with no connection whatsoever, that's talent. They both had incredible chemistry and it was an absolute pleasure to watch these two interact. Kudos to the cast in general though, the actors of Si Ming, Lian Song, Cheng Yu and Yan Chi Wu made it especially pleasurable for me.
There were some slower/dragging parts near the end (as well as some really unnecessary misunderstandings) but I guess I can forgive that, since the pacing of the show as a whole was quite good. Also, since I've seen some people asking about that in the comments and people may care about that: while there are other people interested in our protragonists, there are no real "second leads", as in, the two protagonists are only interested in each other for the whole show.
I loved it but I'm kind of disappointed to myself that I didn't experience any withdrawal :/ Did I watch it wrongly?!?…
For me it was also a slow thing but then it hit really hard. It was probably because I started watching the Behind-The-Scenes videos on YT after the show ended which are absolutely lovely and then I got curious about the censhorship/source material, so I started reading the original novel (which is Boys Love of course) and then I fell down the rabbit hole. Now I'm also watching the donghua and will probably read the Manhua (maybe even the audio drama, not sure yet though). I think maybe the more you engage with it after the show ended, the more hooked you get :)
(You should stay clear of the original novel this show is based on, though, as it's explicitly BL)
