IMO: I saw a seat belt. She set him up and is a murderer and dumped the baby and it was all planned . He and his mom , if they were violent enough which they are NOT, would not need folders of docs. They'd just take care of it. So the moms action at the end to me is her awareness that she nor him can really get this done. I hope the series lets the good guys win. 30+ years of those men being criminals is long enough. Even if the mom dies I hope he and his love and their children live, together.
