LND is the first K-drama that made me in the first place to follow this page and finally even log in so I can leave a review. So it's time to say something before checking out.
Something in the rain was my second kdrama ever and I was absolutely blown away by Jung Hae-ins acting.
He is incredibly precise, sensitive, listening and open actor. His ability to convey the characters' emotions through his eyes is astounding and it feels like he would gain depth in the scene even if the text was taken directly from the ingredients list of a chocolate bar. Have not come across anyone like him after that and in one way my standard became so high from the beginning that nothing really ever compared.
Jung So-min on the other hand has a different quality in acting. She plays more through comedy, taking advantage of her body and quick sense of rhythm. Still, she has had a similar sincerity and authenticity present in her work as Hae In. So it was really a pleasure to hear that someone has gotten the brilliant idea of bringing these two together.
So yes I did have expectations for this one but actually I was expecting it to be a bit shallow and not so deep (as the typical romcom genre usually tends to be).
Thank god it was so much more! This series is significantly more complex and deeper and rich in content than the typical Kdrama that goes under the rom com genre.
Some of the choices in the script and direction didn't quite hit me, but that's forgivable when you consider the overall message this series brings to life. It feels like the aim is to portray ordinary people going through life's big and everyday challenges, finally discovering that in small and big moments of life the purpose is to find each other and share being vulnerable and dare to love. Personally, I loved that things moved on at a very realistic pace here, the exes aren't crazy, and that a romcom can also involve deeper emotions and genuine pain points in life.
I might be biased to say anything about the lead couples acting since I am only and only loving them together, both on and off screen. I think they bring out the best in each other, complementing and feeding each other in a great way, remaining authentic to their characters and always sincere in the contact with each other. And it must be said that the whole cast here does an incredible job overall. Also I myself was very happy with the ending of the show seeming to say that life goes on instead of happy ever after marriage cliche ending.
For me the experience of watching LND is like a warm cup of hot chocolate under a blanket with a friend after a cold rainy day and I will definitely come back to binge it one day.
I am so satisfied with this one that I can now go back to the slump and will live happily for some time with the warmth this has given me.
