Malay use of abang is literally the same with Korean oppa. Korean women also call their boyfriend/husband oppa…
Ahaha I call male street food vendor 'bang' or 'dik' all the time. Pakcik if they're much older. Just to be polite. Of course not in a gedik tone. Hahah

For the Chinese one, using Ge Ge is quite uncommon unless it's your actual brother. Girls don't normally call…
So Chinese dramas didn't really show the reality in China then. If I remember correctly, FL in Hidden Love and Falling into Your Smile called the ML gege.

I think the whole calling non-family members by family term thing is a really Asian thing in general. I think…
Malay use of abang is literally the same with Korean oppa. Korean women also call their boyfriend/husband oppa as a term of endearment. Except for the strangers part.

In my country Malaysia, we call older brother 'abang' in Malay language. And yes it can also means term of endearment when used by girlfriend or wife. My mum is two years older than my dad and she calls him abang coz it simply means dear/darling when used between husband and wife or girlfriend and boyfriend. We also call male strangers abang for respect. Waiter, street food vendor etc. Of course not all of them. If they are old enough to be our uncle, then we'll address them pakcik (uncle).
