On Captivating the King Jan 24, 2024
Just watched the 1st episode and I’m liking it so far. Jo Jung Suk (ML) is always a joy to watch and Shin Sae Kyeong (FL) isn’t so bad as a cross dressing baduk player. She has definitely lost some of her baby face and looks more mature. Most actresses that have played such characters in Korean sageuk and/or modern dramas do wear makeup and would never pass as a male but I guess that’s expected from Dramaland. In the “Love in the Moonlight (2016)” starting Kim Yoo Jung/Park Bo Gum, people complained that in the beginning episodes, Kim Yoo Jung was wearing too much makeup as a eunuch. So in the later episodes, they did tone down her makeup in efforts to appease the audience. Someone did mention “Coffee Prince” (2007) , starting Yoon Eun Hye/Gong Yoo and Yoon Eun’s performance was phenomenal and was convincing (probably wearing no to minimal makeup helped). There are few cross dressing dramas such as “Sungkyunkwan Scandal” (2010), You’re Beautiful” (2009), “Queen Seon Deok” (2009), a must watch, “Empress Ki” (2013) that are all worth mentioning. But there is a less known but has to be one of the best in this genre called “Painter in the Wind” (2008)starting Moon Geun Young. She won the best female actress award for the role and you can see why. She was most impressive and with no makeup.

I’m late to the show (just completed episode 2) and so happy that I decided to give this drama a chance. This series is totally reminiscing of “KungFu Hustle.” From its nonsensical storyline, unassuming main hero, whimsical and/or quirky characters, goofy slapstick humor to its lighthearted wuxia; I am here for it! I love it when a drama makes you laugh out loud and is a welcoming distraction from the usual heavy to mundane life routines. 💖💖💖💖💖

I feel like their budget isn't big enough to "look" like Hero and HOFD but they did work hard to make it feel…
That’s a given since they were all high budget movies vs multiple episode drama series. For that fact, I think MJTY is more impressive coming close to the production quality and visuals as those movies and doing a superb job with their limited budget and resources.

I’ve only just finished up to episode 3, but just wanted to take a few minutes to express how much I’m enjoying this drama. This drama’s spectacular cinematography, the stunning dance/matrix-like fighting scenes, the dramatic and suspenseful musical score, and the poetic dialect and tone are so reminiscing of Zhang Yimou’s films such as “Hero (2002),” “House of Flying Daggers (2004),”and of his most recent work “Shadow (2018).” Hope MJTY becomes a mega hit and kick-starts the love affair with this style of wuxia again and please (Chinese drama gods) create more dramas in this style and vibe. 🫶🫶🫶🫶

Okay, I’m late to the show, but just finished watching the 1st episode and I’m hooked. Must be getting old, but I’m loving the cringy but utterly romantic and poetic ending. 🥲

Thank you for your post. I feel bad for people picking on Jing. I don't know why they don't take the criticism…
Maybe she does or will know but he is the most tragic figure in this drama. 🥹

Don’t quote me on it and if someone else knows more, please chime in. From what I’ve read from others is that XL was saved by the leader of the Chenrong army (not sure if it was Chi Chen, Xiao Yao’s real father or not). Anyway, his life belongs to that leader and has bow to the will of the Chenrong army, so he has no control of his life because he will be loyal to the end.

I agree with you! No matter what, some people will perceive Jing as a weaker character because of his demure personality. Some people are more drawn to the misunderstood “bad” boy image like XL. XL does love Xiao Yao and probably will sacrifice himself for her happiness. Sadly XL’s fate has been sealed so he knows he can’t be with her and knows that Jing is the best one for her. With that said, Jing is not weak but the contrary. He may not be flashy or outwardly as XL, but Jing is steadfast and passionate about everything & anything about Xiao Yao and willing to give his life and all at any moment.

I haven’t watched it yet but that’s another reason why I love Jing! He did everything to protect the woman…
YW! TJing all the way!! 💖

But let's be honest, director didn't give that scene justice (( because many viewers will watch it without any…
I do agree that the director could have spend more time with the scene in the formation but knowing and understanding Jing’s character, personality and his love for Xiao Yao, I never for one second believed Jing would not have done everything and anything in his power and ability to save her. So I never misunderstood or doubted his passion & love for her.

💯 . People calling Jing names should read this post!!! Blame it on the crappy editing and inferior CGI. We…
YW! All thanks to Star Dramachaser! Hope people have a more clearer understanding of Jing. 💖

Thank you for that post. So so tired of people bashing this wonderful character.
Me too! Just because he has such a gentle personality, people perceive that as being weak. He is NOT weak!

This is a post made by Star Dramachaser concerning episode 29/30. ❗CLARIFICATION:
Please let me explain to those who say that Tu Shanjing was stupid did not rescue Xiaoyao. First of all, the maze where Xiaoyao got stucked was a lore formation. You can only enter and cannot exit!

Second, when Tu Shanjing went in, he has been transferring his spiritual power to her. He only got so much spiritual power left after being tortured to death by his brother previously and now he's transferring and is draining his spiritual power for her.

However, despite the non stop transferring of spiritual power, it failed to revive Xiaoyao. He can sense that she's no longer breathing. He can sense that there's no life in her. He knew Xiaoyao was already dead.

In the end, and as been repeatedly emphasized in the novel, Xiaoyao was able to survive because of the timely delivery of spiritual power by Tu Shanjing. Hadn't Jing went in on time, she would've been dead.

The drama has not shown it (I don't know if it will be emphasized later) But here's that part in the novel:

"
Xiao Yao had no life but with the power being continuously transferred to her, her body remained soft and warm rather than cold and stiff. Even though no pulse could be detected, but Zhuan Xu felt that her heart was still beating slightly."

When Fenglong asked what happened to Jing:

Xiao Xiao said "We rushed into the maze to save the Princess. When we found her, Master Jing was protecting her. If it wasn't for Master Jing using his spiritual power to protect her body then her body would have been incinerated into Ashes already. Because he kept transferring power into her, it kept a sliver of hope alive. You can say Master Jing was the real person who rescued her. But when we got there he was already unconscious and we brought them both back to Zhi Jin Summit.

Master Jing's injuries are actually not severe but he's the one who doesn't want to live so that is why he's not waking up."

End...
"
*******
He didn't care about being burn alive. He made a formation and protected her from fire - remember he was the only one who got burnt. Otherwise, she would really die.

The maze was a killing formation with the sole purpose of the enemy is to burn Xiaoyao's body so that no trace can be found. Jing being a descendant to the nine tailed fox is proficient with any formation. He can go out by himself but cannot take Xiaoyao out. Instead of leaving her there, he transferred his spiritual power but the moment he sense she's no longer alive, he completely didn't know what to do. He was so down. And right in that moment, he chose to die with her. Even at the very end, he protected Xiaoyao's body and only let himself get burned from the blazing fire.

You just need to empathize and clearly understand from his perspective. He is not weak and not stupid. It takes a lot of courage to stand up and go after what you want. It takes a lot of courage to give up your life and be with the one you love 😭.

When the other two characters are pushing and pulling with their feelings towards Xiaoyao, Jing has been firm and steadfast, unwavering in his love for her. His life is her. His first choice is her. And he will never and has never used Xiaoyao in any way to gain some things, unlike what the other two characters have been doing. He is not stupid. Not even Xiang Liu can outwit him (remember their transaction in episode 29?)

His love is the purest of them all.

If his original lines weren't deleted, viewers can better grasped about the situation, about his scarifies too. May be

Xiang Liu will do his best to save her. Cang Xuan will use all his connections to protect her. Jing used up all his power and life to save her. Each of these men have their own merits. That's why viewers are torn. And this is the charm, the beauty of this show. We have our own interpretations of love. All of them are capable and certainly not one of them is stupid.

It’s 2 a day Monday to Wednesday. There were 72 episodes filmed with 39 in season 1 so it should be 33 in season…
Thank you! 😊

Title Lost You Forever Spoiler
I liked how all 3 male leads appeared in the episode 14 today. It’s definitely building up the love square. Poor Xiang Liu! He came to save her for nothing. Wow, Ye Shi Qi is so sweet and has such innocence love for Xiao Liu. He looked simply so happy and goofy just being with the FL even if it was in a cell. And geez, what took you so long Cang Xuan (in finally recognizing the FL)! You do deserve to suffer a little bit and need some serious retrospection.

I’m loving this drama so much! But I can’t stand this one episode a day that they do sometimes. Please, give us at least a two or more a day. All the male leads are killing it with their in-depth portrayal of their characters. And I’m definitely looking at Yang Zi in a different light. 💖👏

Does anyone know how many episodes is in season 1 and in season 2?
