But episode 36 was very poignant and without words at all, we are led into the thought of LJQ while he was pretending to be unconscious yet carefully observing LX read and burn the evidence of his treasonous act. Did you notice that his grandfather's words were running through his head then and the fear in his eyes when he realizes that this evidence can get his entire clan killed. The incredulous look he had when he saw LX burning the evidence and his silent tears that she wiped away before pretending to gain consciousness again. What million thoughts might have raised in his mind then? The fact that he was utterly relieved that there is no evidence is less important than the fact that he had not understood why she would burn that very thing that would hold power over even his own grandfather. We were given a preview of ep 38 where he took LX to her family's grave. AS Yet we don't know what transpires yet. We can speculate the kind of punch in the gut he would get when he connects the dots that she is Shen Jia Lan, his own ex-fiance whom he wasn't able to save, yet destiny led him to plead for her to be his wife through an imperial edict. (irony of it). She cannot blame him, but we do not blame her for being mildly lukewarm towards him from the start because of her family's plight. Her last memory with her family was when she was first celebrating their upcoming union, when it was dashed as a cancellation, then the upheaval and purging of her clan came, after which only survival became the priority for her. Now she is confronted with her old memories while he is confronted with the revelation that she, the daughter of the first class minister, his ex-fiance, highly educated and dearly loved in her family is alive and living as his wife no less. What might go through his mind about knowing her as a slave, knowing she had suffered to live this long, knowing he had forcefully married her through an irreversible imperial edict? When the time comes for the revelation, how much might we see him process? I hope the screenwriter allocates enough time for us to actually see his perspectives as in-depth as possible and him voicing them out too. IN ways the earlier link sent by another commenter about the grandfather's perspective was well written into the work. THis provided us viewers a much-needed perspective and narrative on why decisions were made the way they were and we can see what consequences they had down the line. Albeit nothing can be done about them, it provides an understanding and perhaps we know why LX cannot blame the Lins for her family's demise. It may also explain why JinQi's grandfather was obsessed with the painting he acquired at the beginning of the show and how he tried very hard to copy it without success. Perhaps through that process, he was trying to atone and emulate? These are just thoughts...What do you think?
ep 15 and 16 the drunk scene and morning after was just so hilarious. Both ML and FL play off each other so well and I can imagine bts they must be rolling on their backs laughing. Their expression tells us they really had a blast on set in these scenes. The teammates just toss more oil on the fire...
Perhaps the female lead is insistent on abolishing the contract because the contract stated that: Neither could fall in love for each other (The ML reminded her of this in the earlier episodes). The ML might not remember this but the FL lead may have this in mind all the time, apart from conceding to her roommate figure skater. FL is young and vulnerable to being influenced, it is normal. ML is in denial but also in a confused state. When he was drunk he was more direct, but he is very worried not and trying to build up the courage to confess. We can call FL a bit naive, but cannot blame her for not having experienced this before, at 18 what do we really know...
