I see what you mean, but I do think it's because of the other factors I said, which I maybe didn't explain well enough. But we'll see when it airs I guess

idk what happened on MDL but I can tell you that his position has never been changed on Weibo, which is the official site for this. He has always been 友情出演 and your starring position doesn't get changed in China, no matter what supposed "scandals" (going to Tibet is not, they even have variety shows where celebrities go there) you have. in cases like scandals the show is simply cancelled or you use AI face change. An example would also be The Prisoner of Beauty with Song Zuer and Liu Yuning, the Leading Main Leads. Song Zuer is the first starring (一番)and Liu Yuning second starring (二番). SZE had scandals, but their starring position wasn't changed, she still remained first starring. In the new poster for About Love Gao Weiguang is also still on the poster with the three main leads and another actor, marking their importance. The change on MDL isn't equal to changes on Weibo. You are right that GWG is a main lead, but he isn't 领衔主演, he's always been titled 友情出演, which is imo just a nice way to say he's important but less than the three mains. He's also not the only main lead that's titled differently because there's also Ming Dao, who is 特邀主演. If this situation was truly a scandal I'm pretty sure they'd directly cancel GWG, just like Zhang Zhehan (ML in Word of Honour), because China doesn't demote "problematic actors" , they just directly cancel them.

In China the actors starring in a drama/movie are listed as either Leading Main Leads (领衔主演), Main Leads (主演), Special starring Main Leads (特邀主演), Guest appearance(特别出演)appearance out of friendship. Usually the main characters are the Leading Main Leads (in this case Wang Ziwen, Liu Tuning, Jiang Xin) and the "Main Leads" are the important supporting characters and Special starring and out of friendship appearing (Gao Weiguang) can be important main roles too. I'm not sure why exactly these categories for Special Starring and Friendship Appearance exist, but I assume that it's some situation with higher influence/more popularity actors, that can't just be categorised into the typical "Main Lead's", while you also can't give them the Leading Main Lead's category. But in general Gao Weiguang's was always listed as appearance out of friendship and it didn't change, it's just probably that it's kinda hard on MDL to put him in either category since he's technically neither lead, support, nor guest
I think Lusi is already a pretty decent actress and her roles here were not well written enough to take her to…
Alright, thank you, maybe I'll check that out. This is pretty much what I expected. I honestly felt like Pearl girl was gonna be a miss to begin with, the expectations were too high from the start due to the cast, but I didn't have high hopes for the writing, because it sounded like a very basic idol period wannabe women-empowering drama and these usually don't end well, It's the ones, that don't market themselves as strong female lead dramas, that actually end up having strong female leads.
Thanks for you review, definitely steadied my decision, that I will not be watching this. I wanted ask, if you think Zhao Lusi and Liz Yunings acting improved in this drama? I've heard many say it, and was just wondering. It would've also been one of my main reasons to watch this drama (to see how their acting is), aside from their amazing chemistry.
So the goddess only punishes demons right?because she seems fine letting humans kill/ harm demons or sm I wrong?
I'm pretty sure the Baize goddesses can only punish demons, not humans. They can seal Demons as a way of punishing due to the Baize Token, but the token only works for demons. They could probably punish humans in some way, but that wouldn't be connected to their identity as Baize goddesses, who are supposed to regulate Dahuang (Great wilderness) and the demons
Okay, after seeing a lot of comments I also want to comment on this situation between ZYZ and the team. I don't think anyone is really wrong, and all their reactions make sense, but I am to some extent angry at ZYCs reaction. I don't blame WX at all, and I get her processing her grief and not talking to ZYZ, in that way she isn't DIRECTLY doing any harm to either of them. ZYC on the other hand is something else. Before the thing with the Red moon happened ZYZ has said again and again that they should and must kill him and he gave them the means to (teaching him the sword technique and making him immune against the spell), but they didn't. And the first he did after barely regaining consciousness is asking them again to kill him, but they still didn't. And even though in that moment he only asked Ying Zhao to kill him, ZYC was very much also targeted, because they are the only ones at that point capable of killing him. In fact, I'm pretty the reason why he asked Ying Zhao was because he knew ZYC wouldn't kill him. But even though ZYZ warned everyone countless times and begged them to kill him, they didn't. Which I guess, is still understandable. But again, ZYZs life and death would've been in ZYCs hands if Zhao Ying didn't interfere and at some point even PSJ asked ZYC to kill ZYZ. And here's the thing, ZYZ and ZYC had gotten close so obviously he didn't want to kill his new "friend", who is also his enemy. But then after ZYZ regained consciousness and ZYC talked to him, he basically told ZYZ that he's at fault for Ying Zhao's death. I'm pretty sure ZYC only said that because he was upset and wanted to convince ZYZ to live, but I still found it very very wrong. First of all, because ZYC suddenly demanded ZYZ to "make it up to them" by doing good things and "fixing it", when it originally wasn't part of their promise and secondly because ZYZ had basically nothing to do with Ying Zhao's Sacrifice. Especially because he even tried to prevent Ying Zhao's Sacrifice and if we were logically trying to blame someone, then it should first be Ying Zhao for doing it, but secondly ZYC, because him not killing ZYZ is in the end, the reason, that led to Ying Zhao's death. And this basically the only action in episode 17 I understood, but didn't really find justifiable, I hope I made clear why. Everything else I could understand and justify, including Wen Xiao, and Bai Jiu and PSJ, because especially these two weren't close to ZYZ, and Bai Jiu is still a little child.
I rated the story 7.0 bc of WuLian’s whitewashing arc and the revenge arc ends up punishing those seeking justice.…
Okay, that makes sense.
Thank for the recommendations:) I've already tried Royal Nirvana. It's too heavy in politics for me as a casual watch, I need some angsty dramas in between before watching something like that. (Same goes for The Rise of Phoenixes, that I've been wanting to watch since Parallel Works, because Ni Ni is gorgeous). But I think I'll try The Double, I've heard lots of good things about it.
Thank you for your review. Except for Wu Lian's wannabe redemption arc I enjoyed this drama quite a lot. I'm just wondering, from your review you seemed to like this drama in both terms of acting and plot. Why did you only give the story a 7 and as final rating a 7.5? Also, do you have any dramas similar to this one you would recommend? Or in general anything that's tragic and emotionally investing but with little to no romance?
