My favorite OST's in C-Dramas were Love O2O, Ashes of Love, and The Untamed.
I arguably think the Love O2O OST is better than the drama itself - I mean, Silence Wang!!! Such a calm, soothing voice.
The Ashes of Love soundtrack related soo so much to the story, and the additon of electronic beats added lots of depth and made the drama so much more dramatic. Also, I can keep picturing the ending scene, athough it wasn't the best scene, I still remember the song as the camera panned to a dramatic zoom out of the island forest, as we listened to their voices in the minor scale. just *chefs kiss*
And The Untamed, we know why the OST is wonderful - it's because it's part of a story. Also, the intro melodies for each character were actually so soothing, especially Lan Wangji's, so so soothing lol
In all honesty, I actually liked the choice the directors went with telling yibo to keep the emotions on the suppressed side, because I could tell subtleties in his acting that told more stories than being dramatic ever could have. But I appreciate your opinion too
