That's actually the problem with book adaptation because the book fans has an expectation. I think the screenwriter is the cause of the problem because he should have kept the main character s' personality intact so it would not be so hard for book fans to accept it. Besides the book already have plenty of good storyline why make a plot that is so misused already. Good thing the leads are really good but the series would definitely suffer from backlash from the original book fans so their douban score might be affected.

Xu Lingyi is the brother of the Empress and his wife is Luo Yuan Niang. They have an only son which is brother Chen the third surviving child. At the start of the novel he has two surviving concubine. The first one is Aunt Qin who serves as a maid since his childhood. They have a son who is XU Si Yu (2nd surviving child of his). The other concubine is Aunt Wen who came from family of merchant. They have a daughter who is his eldest surviving child XU sizhen.

The heroine who is Luo Shiyi Niang is the younger sister of Yuan Niang but she is a concubine's child. That's why when Yuan Niang felt that she would die because of her disease she made a trap to have Qiao Lan and XU Lingyi caught inside a room (which is a taboo during that time). Then since XU Lingyi was caught in a questionable situation she was able to ask him to make sure to marry one of her sister so brother Chen would be well taken care of. She need Qiao LAN ( Noble birth but her father died early so the title was passed to his Uncle) to be a concubine because she wants to make sure that whoever marries Xu Lingyi would not have an easy time so her son would be the one who would inherit XU Lingyi's title

And from what I see in the trailer it's not Madam Tai who instigated their break up but she just easily believe it which is out of her character.Let's just hope she doesn't stay in prison for more than 1-2 episodes so it would not destroy the story completely. Or else the screenwriter would be bashed nonstop by the hardcore book fans

I think what I just like in the adaptation is they have many times together because in the novel they just see each other most of the time in the dining table and their bedroom. So it's nice to see them dating outside

Yes. The screenwriter didn't even made a good interpretation of Luo Shiyi Niang's character. I mean she always make sure XU Lingyi would not lose his face in front of the slaves and other people so why would she not accept the hand? They have worst fights in the novel but in front of others they pretend to be okay

Well from what I read FL was accused of adultery which is non sense if we based it on the novel because she always has plenty of maid and guards whenever she goes out. So even if she wants to commit adultery she would have no chance? So it's like they made Madam Tai lose her wisdom and the power of XU Lingyi is diminished. But I still have high hope because Seven and Wallace are really great actors. It's just a shame that a series that is supposed to be a classic would just be comparable to idol drama

Looking on the trailer looks like instead of having Brother Jin missing as the source of their major conflict, looks like it would be because of Madam Tai and Qiao LAN which is non sense for book fans because Madam Tai is their number 1 CP shipper. Looks like Madam Tai would be blackened in the series. Good thing I love Seven and Wallace so I still look forward to it

I like the trailer. I'm just worried about book fans because looks like there are big difference from the novel.

Chinese costume drama premiere date are really complicated, earlier it shows that the launch is 2/26/21 but now it's just 2/2021. I hope they stop this waiting torture because I can't watch other series now. And I've already read the novel five times since January this year :(

Book fans would revolt if it would turn out like General's lady because the novel is quite reserved and graceful so it would be a deviation if it becomes comedy. They are really world's apart if the director would stick to the original theme

General's lady is light comedy while Jinxin si yu is a costume drama based on a novel. And their story is so much different because in General's lady she is the first wife while this story the heroine is the sister of the first wife and she had to marry her brother in law to make sure that his nephew would inherit XU Lingyi's title.
