Finally finished watching this, after more than three months... (had to take a break after each episode to forget…
I have watched enough K-Drama to accept that characters have to make some stupid or unrealistic decisions because the writers need to create some kind of crisis to keep the suspense/story going, but in this drama most of the decisions seemed stupid to me. Some memorable examples: 1. the bad guys gouging the eyes of ML for no reason (I can give this one a pass because it was necessary to give him the cyber eyes) 2. ML is beating the bad guy too early in the story - let's turn off his eyes and hope he doesn't get killed 2b. the bad guy just leaving ML when he's helpless even though he could take him for experiments or get his tech (or just get rid of him) 3. ML finds the boss that was supposed to be dead - let's call the bad guy here and MacGyver some device to shoot him with while we wait 4. the Argos leaders sending small groups of goons against DeukGoo again and again, expecting it would work this time and surprised pikachu face when it doesn't 5. YeWon's decisions in general, believing she is smart and in control (LOL) 6. ML's wife jumping under the car right after they reunite, because she doesn't want to hurt him or something (this was probably the biggest WTF) and so on...
The story itself was all over the place, the plot twists made no sense, the sad moments were laughable and the final episodes were just garbage.
The side characters - MiNa (the so-called strong woman) was mostly used just as another damsel in distress, MinJun seemed promising but ended up being pretty much useless/pointless, YeWon was completely useless and achieved nothing (except for deleting few phone numbers from her contact list), Susan had zero presence and her death felt pointless, Chief turning out to be a bad guy was unnecessary (btw. did he actually get someone to gouge ML's eyes or was that just a happy coincidence?)
As for the tech. stuff that I mentioned earlier - that was just the cherry on top of this steaming pile of story - I mean, they could have used something more believable/sci-fiy than just inserting DIP16 (yes, I paused to count) chip in the neck, as if humans have sockets in their spine or something. Another thing that triggered me was the inconsistency of power supply requirements - GwangChul needing external battery pack for his organs while TaeWoong (a.k.a. Korean Winter Soldier) can run his superstrong arm on magic. Also in the last episodes GC suddenly doesn't need the pack anymore, even though they stressed its importance at the beginning (not sure if I missed some explanation for that or they just forgot about it). Note: I can forgive the impossible neck lift because that's just a trope to show how strong someone is (shoutout to Kyle Hill for ruining these scenes for me :-D ).
Finally finished watching this, after more than three months... (had to take a break after each episode to forget how dumb it was, didn't want to drop it because I wanted to see how far the rabbit hole goes (spoiler: too far)).
What I liked: actors (not the theatrical posing and over-the-top parts though), characters (not really sure how to describe this, I guess their setting, chemistry or something, definitely not depth or reasoning), theme (cyber-enhanced humans fighting bad guys, yay!)
What I hated: story/writing, how they did the tech. stuff (more details with heavy spoilers below)
What it reminded me of: Vagabond - because of the bad writing and inconsistent story Uncanny Counter - enhanced individuals fighting bad guys (no sci-fi but spirits & possessed people) - haven't finished this one yet, but I'm loving and enjoying it so far
I honestly expected & WANTED them to kiss, simply because I'm a hopeless romantic & perhaps if this was a mainstream…
Yes, exactly, even Mrs. Yang wonders how many times he has been through that.
I think he repeated the loop countless times and he always failed to make her fall for him. He probably did it so many times that he subconsciously begins to remember some things, that's why he has the flashbacks/visions and it's possibly also the reason why he no longer remembers anything from before the loop started in 2016.
My guess is that each of the loops plays out in a slightly different way, that's why his dream about her was different from what later happened. Also, in the dream she seemed to be closer to him, which might have made the memories stronger (because of her power).
So there is a chance of it ending - eventually he might remember enough to make her fall for him (or to just alert people about the meteor by himself). Or he might become too depressed and end up killing himself before the meteor is announced (he was already standing in front of the TV with a gun in his hand) and the loop will end because time goes back only if he dies by accident.
