i agree that his repetitive decision to protect and/or be with....or face Rui properly all sounds well but was meaningless in realty because he never did anything to address the problem. And, as u said, it really wasnt something he could "fix". I guess he had to somehow stand by/support Rui becuz of his promise to his dying father. He should have just checked her into a mental institution and run to Sayaka. They've just wasted too many years apart. Even if it was only a year, that was a year too long IMO. I started to lose my intereest in him because he had no conviction. Anyway, i'm glad it was kind of an ending with promise.
