They publish official links with subs because they realised how popular the series are when fan subbed and that they can cash in with advertising. There's nothing altruistic about it!

There are lots of labels: but I think gay is a pretty black and white one: exclusively homosexual and homoromantic.

I personally wouldn't consider someone who didn't meet this criteria. But that's just my opinion. Definitely an interesting conversation.
