Good Story Bad Execution

Good story but bad execution. The drama had a lot of potential, especially with the generational storyline and morally grey characters. I liked that no one was completely evil and everyone had their own reasons for what they did.
But the female lead being called strong didn’t really work for me, her character was very inconsistent Most of the time she just pushed the ML away after every misunderstanding which became frustrating after a point. Also didn't fimd any chemistry between the couple but watched for the story.

Turn your brain off and enjoy the ride

This is a stupid show, and honestly, it might have worked even better if it had embraced the stupidity instead of trying so hard to be taken seriously.
The plot is riddled with holes, the characters make some truly questionable decisions, and the writing often feels more concerned with establishing itself as a female-led story than with making the story itself compelling. The irony is that it doesn't do a particularly good job of either.. 😮‍💨

For a drama so focused on action, the fight scenes are also surprisingly mid. I'm not looking for realism, but at least make the fights look cool! Unfortunately, only a handful of scenes manage to deliver on that front.
The show also has a habit of introducing things and then seemingly forgetting to explain them. What was the deal between the 2nd ML and the Prime Minister? What actually happened to his mother? And how did the ML's father end up giving his sword to the FL? Maybe I missed them while fast forwarding the last few episodes.. 😶

And yet, I had a lot of fun watching it. The show has enough cliches and familiar tropes to keep things entertaining, even when the writing is doing itself no favours. And as other people said last few episodes were unnecessary, they dragged out the story long after it should have wrapped things up.

The actors were generally good, though some of the attempts at looking stoic came across as stiff rather than intimidating. That feels more like a directing issue than a problem with the performances themselves. The soundtrack was another highlight for me.

Final verdict: If you're looking for a genuinely well-written, feminist, female-led drama, you're probably better off looking elsewhere. But if you want a fictional story full of clichés, questionable decisions, and enough entertaining moments to keep you hooked while you switch your brain off, Legend of the Female General is a pretty enjoyable watch.
