I constantly think about what would’ve happened if no one cared to save Vegas or if that guard had shot him in the head. How would Pete recover from this? He realizes just how much he cares about Vegas and how in love he is. His whole world fell apart the moment he saw Vegas collapse before him and that look of absolutely horror on his face when he saw what was happening to the person he loves was terrifying. Of course he had to deal with the loss of friends and coworkers in the past since this is a dangerous job and you can’t really avoid death but that’s different from having the person that means the absolute world to you die in your arms. Pete would’ve done everything to protect Vegas. I think what they have and what they feel for each other is honestly a once in a lifetime kind of thing for them (especially for Vegas). The amount of affection they have for each other isn’t easy to replace and even tho Pete has been through a lot, the loss of his ‘’lover’’ would’ve absolutely destroyed him and make him even more miserable than he already is.
