This show fucking SLAPS! I can't stop rewatching it because it somehow gets even better on each rewatchJossGawin…
I wouldn’t call them plot holes per se, but there were a lot of times the show backtracked on itself in a strange manner. It would present a plot (like at the start, Mark telling Tong he absolutely has to move in with Mark for safety, so Tong moves in) and then less then an episode later the writers changed their minds and that plot is undone (in this example, Tong moves out). It makes it feel like these plots have no real use or impact on the story. Likewise a lot of plots happened in random succession with no feeling of continuity and so they felt a bit sloppy. I overall found the show fun, but it was messy fun.
Our main characters very happily get engaged and move in together. Some people are describing the ending as "open" because the story definitely left some strings for a potential season two to pick up, but the main relationship ends solidly happy.
This is another of those shows that I enjoyed a lot more on a second watch. I first watched this when it aired a few years back and I think I found it boring then, but after seeing ForceBook in Perfect 10 Liners I wanted to give this show another try. I am glad I did! While upbeat, this series has kind of a chill undercurrent that I found very pleasant. I liked the little discussions of modern social issues like gay marriage rights and hidden illnesses like anxiety and depression. I liked how the friends and partners could confide in each other and turn to each other for help. I am a video game nerd so I would have enjoyed seeing more game content in this show, but even without it this is still a pleasant little office romance. TLDR This show isn’t anything ground breaking, but it is nice watch. I probably will watch again sometime I want something comforting.
I would say there were 4 notable sex scenes, plus a couple smooching scenes. The sex scenes are prominent and lengthy, but they always fit the mood of the scene and I don’t think they felt out of place.
I liked this, quite a bit actually! I loved seeing both mains angry, and then both realizing they had misunderstood each other, and then both striving to work through their issues and put in the effort to be together.
For fans saying this was done before, can you send those recs my way? I would love to watch more where people get a second chance later on. The only other similar-ish one I've seen is Our Dating Sim.
I don't quite get why everyone is frustrated at miscommunication when clearly the driving force of this show is the comedy of errors. The boys are young and dumb and they don't know how to handle their emotions maturely. The mains are then advised by other young dumb bumbling guys about love and how to proceed, and things get even more bungled. I think that element was charming and it reminds me of how I used to talk in circles around my feelings as a teen because I was so embarrassed and confused but also sure that I knew everything. The ending does drag a little on, but it wasn't bad. This is a pretty solid simple watch.
I dunno about this one. The first ep had promise, but the story didn’t follow through and deliver. This is definitely a very traditional-feeling Chinese drama and draws on a lot of ingrained cultural beliefs in fate and how romance is fated and predetermined, and how sometimes there is a unique beauty in fated love being tragic. There are many many proverbs about how fate ties soulmates together and how it may take many lifetimes before they can walk beside each other, but eventually their paths will cross, and then it will take many many more lifetimes before they can be together. As such the question of “why did we meet, just to part?” is a somewhat common question in Chinese romance stories so it isn’t that out of place here: it seems our boys Shen Nan and Shi Wen are in one of those middling lifetimes where they have met but cannot yet be together. But what is out of place is that we are given no reasoning or explanation why that is in this series. Usually fate in this life is determined by your actions in a previous life, and so too your actions in this life determine the consequences in your next life. But we never learn why the boys have been cursed in this life and they are given no chance to make merit to break the curse. There is a cultural idea that fate only brings couples together but then they have to put in the effort to make the relationship succeed, but that is not explored in this drama either. This series ends up feeling like an unsatisfactory open ended question rather than an emotional and depthy exploration on the topic of fate and human effort. :/ It is a very pretty show though, especially the bonus short.
Uncut just means that some episodes are longer than the standard ~45 minutes made for TV version. It doesn't mean…
Traditionally uncut refers to scenes that are uncensored in the sense that they are graphic in violence or sex, or which show other content that is not suitable for general television audiences. Those scenes are thus "cut" from the show to make a suitable television version, and added back in in "uncut" versions. So yeah, mature content is expected when a show is labelled uncut. There is a recent trend in Thai bls to call shows "uncut" because it lures in audiences who expect those mature elements but many of these shows don't actually contain them anymore and instead, like you implied, are just longer versions of the series.
This is a topic that has in general been making me cranky in the last year or two, sorry about the rant. I quite firmly think that studios are releasing these "uncut" versions because they know that sex sells and that fans are willing to buy subscriptions to gain access to bonus sex scenes which are suggested by using the "uncut" label, for example everyone that flocked to iQiyi when flagship KinnPorsche La Forte (uncut) aired, but the studios lately are not actually delivering the scenes suggested by the term. I don't want sex or violence in every show, but if you are going to market the show as uncut then you should deliver what that term suggests. Otherwise just market it as a long version, not uncut. Gives me conniptions!
Hi~! I started watching yesterday and got through the first two episodes. They were fun, but they hurt my eyes with flashing lights and the music was a bit loud/much. Could anyone tell me if the show calms down a little as it goes on or should I expect this high energy throughout? Thank you!
Cute show, but what was uncut about this version? I watched the WeTV uncut vers and didn't see anything that seemed out of place for a fluffy uni bl. Unless I missed something (like the mdl tag "prolonged nudity"??) this was more of an extended edition or director's edition, not an adult "uncut."
Am I the only one who didn't love the chemistry between Tew and Kan? This show had all the elements that should have made the main couple's dynamic electric -- trust and lack of trust, affection and revulsion, high tension from other conflicts that should have bled into their ust, they both crave love but know they can't really have it-- but for me it just didn't work. In particular I disliked how it felt like Tew completely switched his brain off at times. It felt like he often had big realizations in the case but then the writers switched his brain off and made him completely ignorant when he went to be with Kan. Especially because Tew's actor is very expressive and wears his heart on his sleeve: Tew gave me whiplash from how quickly he could go from suspecting Kan to being completely comfortable around Kan. It felt like the writers frequently chose to ignore logic in order to push drama in their relationship, and I wasn't down with that. The writing was so phenomenal when discussing euthanasia and the different stances on it, so I was surprised that the writing focusing on Tew and Kan's relationship was so full of plot holes.
I absolutely loved the high emotions between them in the final episode though, and I find myself questioning if that finale makes up for all the frustrating bits of their relationship portrayal through the earlier segments of the show. Hmn. Maybe a rewatch is necessary to see them again :D
The official English subbing is odd. Both the WeTV and GagaOOLala subs are the same, suggesting they came from the same subbing team I mean, and whoever did the subs really yassified them. Don't get me wrong, the four teen boys could be sassy at times. But there were a lot of times where the English subs used slang which imo didn't quite fit the mood, and there were also several times where they completely added in lines that the Thai characters didn't say. I do think it is important for subbers to try to get moods across, so there are times when using slang helps, but they do need to find a balance between achieving that mood in the sub language and also adequately conveying the meaning of the og language. This show already had some issues with choppiness and pacing, and I think these subbing choices only added to the tonal issues that foreign viewers might be confused by.
Uugghh, hopefully they find real Americans if they're going to portray Americans. They kill me with settings that…
I have no knowledge of what the show may contain, my blurb was merely a very slim overview of the decade as a whole. It is likely that globalization/international influence may be touched on in the series, but we just have to wait and see!
Based on other reviews and comments I thought this would be a low quality and badly acted show, but it wasn't that rough. The production quality is not bad: things like the camerawork, lighting, and audio were all perfectly fine. The comedy is a bit kooky but it jived with me and I had a ball. If you like shows like Diary of Tootsies or YYY then you will like the comedy in this. In other news, there was more spice than I expected! Nothing outrageous compared to other recent shows (*ahem*, 4Minutes and Battle Of The Writers I am looking at you…!) but several heated kiss scenes and sex scenes, which included kinks like rape fantasies, somnophilia, sadism and masochism, doctor roleplay, and more. I guess vampires are kinky lol.
