I cannot remember the Japanese one, but while they are both decent quality, the plot is so weird. No spoilers, it's just barely watchable (to me!!)

I'd say the dynamic change happens in ep 13, but the makers of the show only felt bold enough to pull through for the viewers at a later episode, to lessen the risk of the show being cancelled. It's not the writings fault, more China's governments fault...
