I so agree with you. The writers did not know how to write properly their characters and oh boy so many were introduced to us but none were developed, likeable and relatable. They completely ruined the whole show because of that.
Three seasons for that.. such wasted potential. The story felt rushed and incomplete. I'm very frustrated because s1 set up a very intriguing concept and unique atmosphere, but s2 and s3 felt so flat the show became basic and boring most of the time. Many characters were introduced but honestly I couldn't care less about the majority of them as they were undeveloped and unlikeable. Our three main protagonists were the only reason I kept going but even their characters had no development, I'm especially mad at the writers for messing Hyun Su's character up.. he was such a complex and layered one in s1, I expected to know and see more of him.
S1 was great but unfortunately there are too many negative aspects about the finale and the overall show, I'm disappointed.
I'm conflicted.. On one hand I love the cinematography, the atmosphere of the drama. There are many beautiful and emotional scenes that are impactful. I also like the way the characters are flawed, each one of them having traumas and so behaving the way they are in the present. BUT on the other hand, I'm so frustrated the writers chose the easy route with romance being the main focus. The drama is called Dear Hyeri, it should have focused on the main character's self-love/growth journey. ML is part of her depression, not her solution. She even said to 2ML she never once felt happy, even when she was dating ML, which means she has to love and forgive herself first to truly feel happy.
