K-Drama A story of a woman's success.
It was a great series. I watched it with curiosity and excitement from start to finish. It is yet another story of a woman's success—at least, that’s how I view it. This is a common theme in Chinese dramas; I’ve watched many of them, yet I still love this genre. Stories about achieving success—whether the protagonist is male or female—resonate with me. They capture my interest and feel worth watching, though I am particularly drawn to stories of female success.
This series tells the story of a young woman who loses her parents and close relatives; she grows up in a poor family that has lost its own daughters and eventually manages to reclaim her former status. I enjoyed it.
The cast was excellent, too. I particularly liked how well-suited the lead actors were for their roles and the chemistry between them. The supporting cast was wonderful as well; the young actors, in particular, showed great promise.
There were some simplistic elements in the show, however. I dislike attempts to drag out such a beautiful series with an interesting premise using cheap plot devices or clumsy, tacked-on transitions.
For instance, bringing back a woman who was presumed dead just to cause trouble and extend the episode count was a lazy idea. I didn't like it, and I docked points for that reason. A note to the screenwriters: please don't disrupt the flow of the story, don't use "patchwork" writing, and please avoid tacking on new additions later in the game.
Despite these minor flaws, I really enjoyed watching it. I would certainly recommend it to viewers who enjoy this type of story.
