That's the biggest hole of all! This series was all about finding who killed Nant but then they don't give you the reason.

Your explanation makes sense. When Mr. Lee touched Zoey's hand on the desk they did not respond as they knew each other, so maybe everything was in Zouey's imagination. Also, how Zouey met Mr. Lee...through Nant?
